Jarl Balgruuf tribute thread

Post » Thu Aug 08, 2013 10:42 am

First thing he says he is going to do is Jarl is save up food and water for the people and then recruit more soldiers to defend the city. He also says he doesn't want the change in government to disrupt the lives of the people in Whiterun which means Vignar is just as good if not better in some respects like heirs for Whiterun.

Free-Winter is alright. I just assumed you were talking about the Jarls who were already in power from the beginning.

Aye think everyone that chooses stormcloak regrets having to dethrone Balguuf, but he's alot like Ulfric so that is to be expected. However as soon as you win the siege at Whiterun he kind of to starts to act like a spoiled brat, so maybe he just acts tough when he is sitting in his chair.

Skald is awesome too though, senile and narrowminded that's how I like my leaders.

You're confusing true Nord with real Man ;)

I'd say that the exchange between him and Vignarr shows why he's not a true Nord. Also wasn't the axe thing a duel challenge?

I wouldn't be so sure.

Sevario Pelagia is killed by the SC, Arcadia and Adrianne's business are failing because the Stormcloaks don't want to buy from Imperials, because Pelagia is dead, Carlotta has a hard time keeping up her sales, SC destroy Heimskr's home and is left homeless, Hulda mentions her inn gets more trashy because of drunk guards, those drunk guards constantly hit on Carlotta, Sinmir claims he can do a better job as guard commander yet stays drunk at the inn, destroy the area around the Gildergreen and is never fixed (not fixed on Imperial side also), and the Battle-Borns are constantly harassed (fair enough)even though some of them just work.

What, if he acted like a pompous assclown? Shame he doesn't, yeah?

I doubt Ulfric would be as popular if he acted like Skald.

See? This goes nowhere.

He allows stormcloaks to rob the Battle Born's home. I don't care how much of an ass Olfrid is, and i dont care what his big plans are. that's wanton and spiteful, there's no excuse for it. And theres nothing i hate nothing more than spite.

IMO, Skald is one of the worst. He's a religious fanatic. Just listen to him ramble.

Nah,the worst kind is a corrupt(there isn't any other kind) oligarch/plutocrat type with organized crime connections(thief's guild).

Maven Black-Briar.

Erikur also.- he was gonna be jarl of Solitude after Elisif dies in a Boethiah quest, but it was cut from the game.before release.

The imperials and whiterun guard might have killed pelagia because their catapults were facing his farm and stuff.

I don't know where he was killed exactly, but its likely he was killed inside his home which is inside the city. It was crushed.

Vignar's the better Jarl. Balgruff was weak, and although a decent person, not fit for leadership in these troubled times.

Honestly? I thought sacking Whiterun as a Stormcloak would be more painful than it really was. Yes, it was a waste of lives, but had Balgruf had the spine to stand up against the Thalmor-controlled empire when he had the chance then the bloodshed could have been averted, and Whiterun and Skyrim would have been in an overall stronger position.

He didn't do that because of personal issues with Ulfric Stormcloak.Although maybe lack of spine is also part of the reason.

1) Sevario was an unfortunate casualty of war. Those tend to happen in war. The Imperials tried to cut your head off simply for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

2) Stormcloaks don't buy from Arcadia since they fear that she could poison the potions. Considering that before the battle she shows obvious disdain for the Stormcloaks, it is no surprise that they don't buy from someone that hates their group. Would you buy something from a person that hates your faction?

3) Adrianne can be explained by her being the former steward's daughter. Stormcloaks could potentially see her being angry over her father being exiled so they could fear her giving them faulty weaponry. In addition, why would you get weapons from a blacksmith with ties to the previous regime when you can get weapons from a smith who is both known as the best smith in the entire country and is a known supporter of your faction. It isn't based on race since if it were, the BOSMER and BRETON in the city would complain about Stormcloaks not buying from them. Furthermore, an Imperial owns a house in the rich district of Windhelm and the Stormcloaks in Windhelm advise you to go to the DUNMER merchant in Windhelm.

4) Heimskr doesn't seem too bothered about that. Also, read part 1. It's war, things get damaged during a war. The Imperials also use catapults during the siege of Windhelm and those no doubt damaged parts of the city.

5) Hulda also says the following line afterwards "In other words, nothing's changed." That means everything is still the same with regards to the bar.

6) The guards also hit on Carlotta when the city is controlled by the Imperials. Nothing ever comes of it

7) Sinmir is supposed to leave the bar yet he doesn't due to a bug in his pathing.

8) The Imperials also don't do anything about it.

9) The Battle-borns are practically snobs. The only good ones are Jon, Lars, and the one on the farm. You really thing the Battle-borns wouldn't do the same if they were in charge of the city?

*Someone makes a tribute thread for a Imperial Jarl, Stormcloak supporters quickly come in to trash talk him*

*Someone makes a tribute thread for a Stormclock Jarl, Say something bad about that Jarl and you'll get flayed alive."

Ah, Skyrim forums

@warpenenergybot Now the thing is... you had to speculate all that. Nothing in the game implies that Adrianne and Arcadia are wrong.

Then why is it that the sleazy Belethor, a BRETON, who would surely complain about doing less business, doesn't? Funny how the BOSMER don't complain about the Stormcloaks not doing business with them. Also funny how the Stormcloaks actually advise you visit Sadri's store in Windhelm. Also funny how none of the non-Nord merchants in other cities don't complain about the Stormcloaks not doing business with them. Why is it the only two people who complain are people with ties to the Imperial regime or who hate the Stormcloaks before the arrive in the city?

I really like Balgruuf. He's one of the few characters in the game that actually gives you some damn respect and takes you seriously. Jarl Ballin' indeed.

I had to agree with everything Balgruuf had to say about the civil war. I came to the same conclusions about Ulfiric as a person before I had even talked to Balgruuf. He reflects my views perfectly. One of the few who kept a level head in all that insanity.

I'm a Balgruuf man.

If Balgruuf was a Stormcloak then I'd probably join them. But alas, I don't think I'll ever siege Whiterun again.

Pftt. Whatever. Balgruuf is one of the few Jarls in Skyrim fit to lead. Nothing about him screams weak to me.
