Hello all,

I recently purchased Fallout: New Vegas complete edition on steam, and have come across a very strange, and somewhat gamebreaking glitch. Most NPC's have this strange stutter step whenever they move, and it's extremely annoying. Whenever they move, they glitch back and forth every so slightly, causing collosion noises and looking extremely weird. I have tried resetting the cache, playing with and without DLC's, and nothing seems to work. I really look forward to playing this game, and I hope that somebody has a fix.

Do you have Vsync on? You should.

If the game runs faster than 60 FPS, then you get this effect. Also, if your using the keyboard and mouse, make sure you disable the gamepad and rumble in the Prefs files. While it ha nothing to do with NPC movement, it can affect your character's movement.

If after turning on Vsync you still have stutters, there are things to do to take care of that. The Stutter Reducer and playing in Windowed Mode.

I do have the Vertical-sync box checked in the launcher, it doesn't seem to help with the issue.

I tried playing in windowed mode with V-Sync, and that didn't help either.

Is there any way to limit my FPS (I've seen the option in a few other games, not in this one?)

You need a plugin for NVSE

If your using the 4GB enabler, then there is a little trick to using that and NVSE, but if your not running a bunch of mods, don't worry about that for now, my game ran fine on 2GB for years.

Here is a video that explains how to put all this together. Note in one video, he explains the installation of the script extender incorrectly. NVSE needs to go into the Data Folder, not the root directory. I can't remember which game he gets it wrong on. (weirdly enough, he puts it in the right place, just says the wrong one)

Anyway, once you run the Stutter Reducer, then open up the config as instructed and set the max frame rates to say 40. (default is 37). If the game is smooth, then your golden. If you want more frame rates, then bump it up, not over 50 to 54 though. Note, the lower the max rate is, the less you notice the inevitable frame rate drops.
