can anyone help me out here? i have windows 7 64bit on i5 cpu with 8gig ram running on gtx 550-ti asus edition and i recently re-installed my retail non-steam version of oblivion and shivering isles seperately and patched it to latest patch. Now the problem is when i click on "oblivion.exe" it gives me the little hour glass on the mouse cursor saying that its running and after like literally 2 seconds absolutely nothing happens. no error messages no crash no nothing. it's just there and nothing happens and since my "oblivion.exe" is not responsive i can't launch the game with OBSE! (since OBSE still opens oblivion via "oblivion.exe") nor can i launch the game with OBMM or the bethesda oblivion launcher. None of the programs that launches the game via "oblivion.exe" is responsive since the original executable is not working.
So i have looked over the net and some people say it's my windows 7's "game explorer" that is causing the problem but there were no permanent solution except that i have to change my original exe file's name to something else in order to get the game to launch.
So I made a backup of the original exe file and changed the new exe file name to something else to see if it worked and the game did work. Now it runs fine with no problem ONLY IF i use my new executable file that i renamed.
Currently my exe file is renamed to "oblivion1.exe". So in my oblivion directory folder there is 2 executbales... 1 is the original "obvlion.exe" and the other one is the one i currently use to play the game which is "oblvion1.exe"
The game works fine with no crash as of now, it's just that i cannot use OBSE and any other mods related to that nor can i use the OBMM to launch my game and etc...
i disabled UAC i am running both oblivion.exe and launcher.exe on admin via properties (not windows logged in as admin)
i tried all compatibility modes in properties. i also tried re-installing the game still using the above configs and also my installation path of my oblivion is NOT in program files nor is it in program files x86... in fact it's not even in the c drive, all my non steam games are installed on my D drive under my custom "games" folder. No matter what i do i just can't seem to get the game started without having to resort to my "oblivion1.exe" file. Does anyone know how i can get my original executable file to work???
