Now, we all know about Moira Brown and her Wasteland Survival Guide, and it's okay, but it's not practical, I want to see what everyone's true feelings on how you'd survive in a Fallout-esque Apocalypse? Let's create our OWN Wasteland Survival Guide, and let's see if it could actually be put to the test in the Capital or Mojave Wasteland?

Chapter one: Basic needs.

Chapter two: Sustaining over long periods of time.

Chapter three: Common problems you may encounter.

Chapter four: Contact with other survivors.

Chapter five: Repopulation.

Chapter six: Rebuilding.

Drop comments about a chapter or several, and we'll discuss them and hopefully create a survival guide to rival Moira's.

Chapter one: Finding Survivors. You need other people to help you survive. Look at Megaton, a prime example. Start to gather supplies with these survivors as you trek across the wastes. Look for a place to settle down. Old buildings, with a lot of space and a lot of rooms. Underworld is the example here. Ensure this building is in a safe spot where enemies and creatures won't bother you.

Chapter two: Establish teams from these survivors for different needs. Those adept with combat can search old ruins for food, water, guns, and ammunition. They can also bring back objects for the building all of you are living in, such as beds, cabinets, lockers, and chairs. Other teams such as medical and Engineering. All the while searching for more survivors. It would also be wise to get the word out to attract people you can't directly talk to. Example: The Lone Wanderer never meets anyone from Underworld, yet they hear about it and travel there.

Chapter three: Contacting other survivors should be among the first things you do. Like I have stated, band together to survive.

Chapter four: Let nature take it's course. As more and more people find there way to your settlement, it is natural for the men and women to find love. If not, inform the people of the necessity of repopulation.

Chapter five: Most people you find won't be very skilled in the way of architecture and Engineering. So, for the time being, focus on restoring your own building, inside and out. Make sure it stays on a solid foundation and the inside is partially renovated. Rebuilding is more that just your settlement; you need to find other settlements and work together to rebuild.

Anyways, Moira's guide is pretty badly structured and does not follow logically. Every step beyond immediate survival is rebuilding and repopulation. What is repopulation anyways? A how-to guide to making babies?

Sarcasm aside, I'd say that the crucial element is to get your hands on Geiger counters and secure caches of supplies immediately, as well as seek out fellow survivors as soon as possible. Lone wolves get picked off by packs, as proven by situations where a breakdown of the social order happened (eg. economical collapse Argentina). People should also move and retake the cities immediately and salvage what infrastructure survives.

Are other survivors as such a basic need as finding shelter, fresh food or water as a FIRST priority? I know you included these but would those three not be the MAIN plan? As an example, you wouldn't buy seeds to plant without soil to plant them in.
Chapter two I agree with, that seems about the thing I was thinking.

Chapter three, I meant survivors from countries over, radio broadcasts, television networks repaired, places across the country with huge settlements, those kinds of survivor camps.
Chapter four: Yeah, I'm not sure how I meant this one to come out, but I mean to reduce possibilities of inbreeding, how many survivors and from which different ethnicities will be sought after?
Chapter five: Yes, again, I mean rebuilding on a citywide or even larger scale, rebuilding the earth.
