I was hoping their was a safe way to get the key w/o becoming a mage since some npc's call you a mage after you start the college quests. And if their is a way through console or something else is it safe to do so? I hope it wont break the game, TY

you could select the door through the console commands and enter "unlock" without the quotes and that will unlockthe door.

However keep in mind upon entry it might still trigger the CoW quest that leads you in there. and killing the draugr boss at the end might not be possible without Tolfdir.

If your only reason to go in there is for the amulet piece. its best to just give yourself the item through the console command.

Console commanding the amulet piece is probably the way you want to go since you're not interested in the COW like Resident_Within mentioned. That's the way I would do it.
