Running a oninit actor script that duplicates npc

For my mod Sands of Time i am adding a new feature where vanilla spawns are increased via mcm menu options. To create them on the fly I have a oninit event in a actor script on the vanilla npc. The script clones the npc from 1 to x times depending on mcm menu options. But the clones are running the script too and i end up with a million clones. Any ideas ?
