That's a Windows TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) problem. If the temperature you're reporting is for the GPU, then that's actually fairly normal for it being under load.

There are lots of possible causes of TDR faults, including a bad/failing video card or PSU, so troubleshooting it could be a challenge. I'd start by reinstalling the latest drivers for your video card. Your driver installation package should have an option to do a clean install, which removes any old driver versions on your system before installing the new drivers. With Nvidia drivers, choose Custom installation and then check the box to perform a clean install; I'm not sure how it works with AMD drivers, but it should be easy enough to figure out.

This behavior can occur for one or more of the following reasons:

  • You may need to install the latest updates for your display driver
  • Visual effects, or too many programs running in the background may be slowing your PC down
  • The GPU is taking more time than permitted to display graphics to your monitor

You may need to install the latest updates for your display driver

You might need to set Windows Update to automatically download and install recommended updates. Installing any important, recommended, and optional updates can update system features and other software that might help to fix your hardware problems.

As to update to the latest display driver for your graphics hardware.

---------------------------------------------------

Visual effects, or too many programs running in the background may be slowing your PC down

You can also adjust your PC for better performance by disabling some of the visual effects. Here’s how to adjust all visual effects for best performance:

  1. Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools.
  2. Click Adjust visual effects, if you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click the Visual Effects tab, click Adjust for best performance, and then click OK.
Note: For a less drastic option, select Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer).

-------------------------------------------------------

The GPU is taking more time than permitted to display graphics to your monitor

  1. Exit all Windows based programs.
  2. Click Start, type regedit in the Search box, and then double-click regedit.exe from the results above. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Browse to and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
  4. On the Edit menu, click New, and then select the following registry value from the drop-down menu specific to your version of Windows (32 bit, or 64 bit):

For 32 bit Windows

  1. Select DWORD (32-bit) value.
  2. Type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter.
  3. Double-click TdrDelay and add 8 for the Value data and click OK.

For 64 bit Windows

  1. Select QWORD (64-bit) value.
  2. Type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter.
  3. Double-click TdrDelay and add 8 for the Value data and click OK.

Close the registry editor and then restart your computer for the changes to take affect.
