My first mod!

Post » Mon Apr 19, 2010 5:16 am

So, I've created my own type of weapon. Well...ok...I used the weapons tutorial found in the G.E.C.K. board. But , I'm proud of myself. I've created two items for your enjoyment. They are both quite simple I didn't add any new textures (mainly because I don't know how).

So, here is what I created: A simple 40mm grenade launcher. It uses the Combat Shotgun as the model. It does however use the "Bait Grenade" projectile animation (not sure if this is a Calibr ammo type or not). The ammunition it uses is Missiles (of which I've renamed 40mm grenades) I have also added an ammo box with 20 of these grenades. Both items can be found in the PC's Megaton house. The launcher is in the bedroom on top of the filing cabinet and the ammo box is in the same location between the bed and filing cabinet on the floor. Hopefully I have set the ammo crate up correctly and it should respawn the ammunition.

All that I ask, is that some of you DL my files to try them out and let me know what you think. Hopefully the gun isn't too under or over powered. Also, if someone would like to reskin the weapon that'd be great too. The other thing that I ask is that if you do make changes to them please let me know and maybe allow me to add them to my file list.

Again, it is my first mod and may not be the best but hopefully it'll be something someone likes. I'll keep on making new things and hopefully I'll get better.

Thank you. I've beenmessing around with the G.E.C.K. since I got the game, but never really made anything. I had started with the tutorial on gamesass' website on how to make a vault but I never finished it. I've tried several times to create a weapon but all but this one failed. So, hopefully with enough practice I can get better. Thanks again.

I will try this out and let you know what I think. You will be amazed with yourself soon enough. In about a month or two, you will be able to do something 10x as complicated as this with a blindfold on, and your hands tied behind your back. Just 4 months ago, I new pretty much zip about the geck, now I am doing all sorts of crazy things. I'll let you know what I think. :)

Ok well, I tested it, and it was alright, but I have alot of constructive feed back. You ready? Ok, don't take the amount of things I am about to suggest personally or anything, learn from them, and have fun with the finished product. (which I will also test) So. Some issues with it are, the actual grenade explosion did like 1 dmg, because it is a bait grenade. This not a Calibr ammo type as far as I know. However, the grenade flying through the air would PWN everything it touched. So I could fire the grenade into the guys face, blow him to peices. The grenade would roll away then go off. To fix this, this is what you should do. First off, keep it all into one .esp since you can only have a certain amount active at once. Delete the grenade ammo one and forget about it. Second, change the damage of your gun to 0, the ammo type to FragGrenade (the normal thrown version) as well as the projectile to the FragGrenade. This way, it uses the games standard frag's that instead of being thrown, can now also be shot from the gun. Setting the damage to 0 makes it so if the grenade HITS the person, it does not just pwn them, but the explosion will do normal grenade damage. This way it is like an actual grenade launcher. For a more realistic approach, you should make the gun do like 5 damage, since it would still hurt to be hit by a grenade coming out of a gun (like a M203 or something) Also, to give it more of a 'grenade launchery' noise, change the firing noise to Sawed of Shotgun. This is much deeper and I think would match better. Upload once these changes are made, and I'll test again. Hope this helps. Again don't take it personally. Good luck :D

Thanks for the feedback. I did notice that it did like no damage too. But I thought it was just me. I'm gonna go change it and let you know how I make out with it. If I didn't want the feedback, I certainly wound't of asked for it. :)
