Commissioning Weapons, Armor, and Enchantments

Post » Mon Aug 19, 2013 10:55 am

Ok, before PC people jump in and say "there is a mod" keep in mind that not everybody can afford the Master Race that is the personal gaming computer.

Now that that is out of the way, why wasn't this an option? I shouldn't have to grind smithing from 15 to 100 to get access to Dragonbone weapons and armor. I should be able to go to Eorlund Grey-Mane or an equally skilled smith, bring him some ebony, iron, and dragonbones along with 20,000 gold and say "make me a set of Dragonbone". Same goes for enchanting (if you know the required effects for your enchantment).

I understand there's a risk that people will be running around with Daedric armor at level 10, but surely there are ways to work around this ie level restrictions.

Some players don't want to be an artisan; they just want to kick ass and take names and pay people for the upkeep of their equipment.

I want to vote No but not for the reason in the poll.
I'm just going to vote for maybe.

How expensive would it be?

Depends on the set. The higher up the smithing/enchanting tree the harder it would be to find a smith or enchanter that could make it and the more expensive it would be. IMO 20,000 Septims for Dragonbone sounds about right.

I wouldn't mind if the option was there, but I prefer crafting my blades.

I agree, but I think only the PC should be able to improve to Flawless/Legendary, and even Eorland wouldn’t work on materials he has not used before (so he could work Steel & Nordic Carved).

You’d need to go to the Orc Blacksmith to have Orcish armor/weapons improved.

Other than cost I would like to see time included. Improving a blade should take a day or two game time before you can come back and pick it up.

Because a poll should just have Yes / No / Other, and allow members to post why they think so.

Too many authors try to get witty with elaborate definitions of what yes and no mean. It deters form individual views and ultimately results in members not voting at all.

Besides, the opening line of the OP is brash enough. I read no further from that point. It's not a focused line of discussion when one opens with platform flamebait.

My last PC cost me less than the PS4 is going to cost and was really reliable....

Anyway, I'm not trying to continue your rage war, YES I do think it should have been included in the vanilla game.

I've always hated polls where the author tries to "push" the results by injecting their opinion into the voting options. Yes, No, and maybe would be fine. Leave the editorial comments like tedious, exorbitant, etc. out of it.

Flame bait? Really, didn't know I had to walk around pins and needles. I be sure to turn my sensitivity to over 9,000 next time I post a topic. This isn't about a platform war. I could care less on what or where you play Skyrim. What I am interested in is positively effecting the development of future TES titles.

How exactly is one supposed read into that?

Seems like a continuation of your aggressive history. So, why am I not surprised?

Okay. I'm stopping this here, you're derailing the thread from it's original intent. If you were offended by op or interpreted it as aggression then I apologize. Can we continue?

Which is folly anyway because the power-gamer would simply grind Smithing to accomplish the same thing. Having it be expensive deters that, and puts the abundance of money to use.

Yeah. I would like this as a feature. But limited. Only a master smith could make Ebony and Glass. For Daedric, you'd need some legendary smith that no one knows about. Or from a Daedric cult or something.

In regards to smithing, Daedric armor shouldn't be allowed to be made by the player in the first place, otherwise, why haven't other blacksmiths made it & selling it for a fortune ? It should be the rarest thing in the game, so once you find a piece it's means a whole lot more. Which was one of the things Morrowind did well to limit and give a great deal of satisfaction to finding Daedric or even ebony pieces. And if you give blacksmiths the ability to make your gear, and high end stuff, as well as improving it, then that just makes the current smithing trade redundant.

I'd rather see weapon/armor degredation back, along with repairing. It just needed to be tweaked so they degraded a little slower, so it wasn't as much of a hassle after each fight. Having a weapon unusable in a fight made things interesting, and carrying a backup weapon made more sense. I just hope they change it to something better in the next game.

The above sums-up well why I too didn't vote.

I've never grinded any of the crafting skills so I'm a big yes to this. Was shocked when I tried to get something enchanted and was turned away.
An idea like some have posted is that the average trader or smith could have random pieces of low/medium armor but the best Steel from a Grey-Mane type character, Orcish from the strongholds, Elven from an Elven smith, etc... Then you have to do a special quest to find the Glass, Ebony, Daedric smith. Then spend vast sums of money to get them crafted. Chaps my a$$ when trying to role play any character but a smith, alchemist or enchanter why I'd "need" to grind those skills when I have hundreds of thousands of septims.

Sounds like a fantastic idea to me. Always annoyed me when the guy who is supposed to enchant for the college NEVER does.

lulz :icecream:

On topic: It's a great idea, OP. Put level restrictions here and there, tie it with Speech, and it's perfect. It would also dramatically make money actually valuable.
