Elder Council better at ruling than an emperor?

Right after Oblivion main quest, Elder Council takes over ruling until the next emperor was chosen. Wouldn't it be better if the next emperor was never chosen and they kept on ruling? No more tyrants.

Yeah that Potema Mede was a biatch.

Frankly, relative to real-life empires, the Cyrodiilic emperors have a pretty good track record. Pelagius and Potema are the only ones I can think of that were a bit tyrannical or coo coo for coco puffs.

Actually it was Potema Septim. Mede is too new. If you read the "Brief History of the Empire" series, a bunch of Septims were tyrants. The Imperial Council would be better at ruling. Empire should just be a Constitutional Monarchy.

I'm also intrigued by the prospect of having a Cyrodiilic Republic without an Imperator. Too bad Ocato got offed. However I'm guessing the Empire will dissolve sooner or later, especially if the Mede dynasty is destroyed and the rest of the provinces will secede from the Empire. Probably some Colovian bandit-kings will try take the crown and burn down half of Cyrodiil while doing it.
