Normal Map Tutorial Video

Post » Wed Aug 21, 2013 4:38 am

Hey everyone, I just uploaded this tutorial for people that are struggling to make awesome normal maps for their own Skyrim textures. Anyone with Photoshop(and basic photoshop skill) and Crazybump should have no problems using this method.

Thanks, tips for normal maps are always appreciated. Does this really work equally well for any kind of texture? Most Photoshop/GIMP tutorials I find are centered around brick textures, which seem fairly easy to do. I've gotten the impression that if you want to do normals for stuff like natural cave textures, you will pretty much need to do 3D modeling and bake that info into a 2D texture. I am terrified of getting into 3D modeling so it's obviously something I'd rather not do.

Natural textures are definitely a whole different story, but maybe you could utilize this method more intricately to do natural textures. Paint light on the highs and dark on the lows then blend them together and combine them with the diffuse perhaps.
