The breed of Khajiit in Skyrim?

Post » Thu Aug 22, 2013 2:55 am

Hey everyone.

I've had an annoying question in my head for a while. What breed are the Khajiit that roam Skyrim and are controlled by the player if one chooses to play as a Khajiit? I've looked everywhere and can't find a definite answer. As far as I know, the Khajiit in Morrowind were Suthay-raht who are digitigrades. I've read some posts on different forums that apparently, they are just that in Oblivion and Skyrim aswell. However, in both Oblivion and Skyrim the Khajiit can actually walk properly on their feet, which would point to the Cathay breed (not -raht).

So who do we play as, in Skyrim? And all other Khajiit in Skyrim?

Ohmes in Arena...apparently?

Ohmes-Raht in Daggerfall

Suthay-Raht in Morrowind.

Cathay-Raht in Oblivion and Skyrim.

I wouldn't put much stock in the foot style being anything more than how the developers decided to design it. It's quite likely that the Khajiit ever since Redguard have been the same type, and that they haven't been digitigrade since Morrowind is just a design decision (much like how they look like lynxes in Skyrim, while Oblivion was more like lions or cougars).

Indeed. If we get a game in Elsweyr I doubt it's going to have all those different types with some digitigrade and others not.

Surely not Cathay-raht. Infact, no way. Cathay-raht are described as Jaguar Men type of Khajiit, with great height and muscles even for the younger types, with spotted fur. If anything, Cathay or Suthay-raht? (They are described as looking similarv, however the Cathay are a bit larger and stronger.)

Would that imply ever since Morrowind the khajiit have been Suthay-raht?

Redguard, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim I'd say all had Suthay-raht.

As an aside, a book in Skyrim alludes to the sabrecats being a type of Khajiit.

"Seeing the ferocity of the Khajiiti warriors, Ra'Wulfharth could not bring himself to put them to death. Using the roar that Lorkhaj had given him, he spoke to Masser and Secunda, to move to their fullness in the sky. The Khajiiti warriors became Senche, but Lorkhaj stripped from them all reason.

When Ra'Wulfharth returned to sink his fangs into the Red Mountain, he called upon his people to aid him. Dro'Zira was the only among the "Rhojiit" who still remembered, and so was the only one who answered the summons.

[...]

As for the rest of the "Rhojiit" They grew small and lost their cunning altogether, which is why you should not hesitate to strike them down when they approach the wagons. So it was told by my father, and so I tell it now to you."

I could see that applying to the mountain lions in Oblivion, too.

Whoops meant Cathay. Just added the Raht out of reflex. If anything, in Skyrim you seem to be able to make different Khajiit breeds based on the size you pick. We don't really know all that much about them. One has to wonder if the Ka Po'Tun were an offshoot of early Khajiit explorers or vice versa. This isn't my area of expertise with the lore though.

In Oblivion and Skyrim they are either Ohmes-Raht(doubtfut), Suthay-Raht(likely) or Cathay(maybe). Oblivion almost seems like the Ohmes-Raht description would make sense.
