My idea for a new threat which strides across the wastes, wherever they may be in the future of the franchise:
An intelligent machine built to collect and contain radioactivity indefinitely, lead lined so the ionising rays can't pass through which unintentionally serves a second purpose as heavy armour. Its design fits in with the Fallout aesthetic, its a simple mobile barrel shape and due to its weight it moves very slowly on thick treads like a tank. What you would say is its face is an extended collecting duct made up of 3 plates which bloom out to the shape of a radioactive warning sign, this is a very fast moving part of the machine which juxtaposes its slow moving body. The duct acts as its eyes and so the plates dart around and flare when in alertness. Like much of the AI and computerised systems in Fallout it is prone to malfunctioning, these machines, as if forced to evolve, now spew the radioactive waste they've collected onto potential dangers. This means an encounter with one can result in a large accumulation of RADS and I think this would be beneficial to gameplay as I've often found RADS to be one of the more neglected stats, its inclusion would bring RAD-X and radiation suits more to the forefront of the game.
A second idea, this time for a location, inspired by my recent visit to Bratislava in Slovakia:
I stopped there for one night as part of my travels and we were drawn to one place in particular which was recommended by the locals, the Subclub. It is a former nuclear bunker from the cold war era now transformed into a techno club. As a huge fan of the Fallout series I found the whole night we spent there surreal as if I were in some post-apocalyptic vault and the city we'd just walked through was now wasteland. The thick concrete encasing you and the huge blast doors you enter through assure you that this isn't just themed or for show but the real deal and if a nuclear bomb were to fall whilst you were getting your rave on you would be in the best location for thousands of miles. I really enjoyed my night musing these things over a couple of beers, which is suprising because it was hard to think over the repetitive pound of the electronic music. Anyway, I digress, I think a club based in a vault would be a fantastic respite from all the seriousness of the Fallout franchise - obviously not techno music but maybe old swing and jazz music of a certain era or something like the Cantina Band from Star Wars playing with crumbling instruments in the corner. Anyway if you're passing through Bratislava or if you're part of Bethesda I recommend a visit to the Subclub, or just Bratislava itself because it is a bit of a wasteland.
Looking forward to hearing people's thoughts and opinions on these and please use the thread to contribute your own!
Also if you want to read more about my travels through Eastern Europe I've almost completed an account of them, get in touch for a link.
