Steam & widescreen mod?

Hi all,

Although I've several copies of Morrowind lying around, for convenience (and collector's idea) I was planning on getting the TES anthology, which includes a steam version of Morrowind. Although I'm not really a mod player, I was wondering if it is possible to use MGE with this version. I don't really want the graphical update, only the widescreen fix. And if this doesn't work, is there another fix to get widescreen suppot (1920*1080)?

Furthermore, (not really mod related, but I don't want to start a new topic for this small question) I was wondering whether saves are compatible between the 'normall' (fully updated) version of Morrowind (i.e. the GOTY on CD for example) and the steam version. In case I want to use mods down the road, can I just install it from cd and use my saves made in the steam version?

MGE works with Steam with no major problems. The only issue is that you have to switch-off Steam Overlay (for Morrowind only, no need to disable it wholly).

I don't have Steam version of Morrowind, but I think saves should work between Steam and retail. Steam is already patched to 1.6.1820, and Morrowind Code Patch works with this version too.
