How come I got a bounty - I'm the victim!

Post » Thu Aug 22, 2013 10:32 pm

My PC enters the inn at Kynesgrove and some loud-mouth Nord says 'blah, blah, blah milk drinker'. Milk drinker!? My PC is the Guildmaster of the Thieves, not to mention Nightingale, so don't talk to her like that.

Long story short, I followed the dialog until he attaked (which surprised me, I was expecting a brawl). He got in the first hit, everyone screams and says do something so my PC hits him with Ash Shell and he's down like a statue. She then puts a poison rune under him, casts one of the flesh spells on herself, unsheathes her daggers, and steps back. So far, so good.

The shell wears off, he starts to move and detonates the rune (which doesn't hit anyone else as far as I can tell) and comes after my PC. I can't even remember if my PC got in a single attack, but everyone goes ape as soon as she starts to fight. She used Calm to handle the Nord, sheathed her weapons and everyone calms down.

I check the game stats and there's a bounty! For what? I thought you are allowed to defend yourself without risk of a bounty when the other party initiates combat. Guess not.. thoughts please?

Thanks

Was the loud-mouth Nord hostile after the Ash Shell wore off? Because if he wasn't the Rune became a first-strike attack.

It also happens when Paralyzing them.

I know the encounter and it's no brawl -but a full fight. The poison rune propably hit someone -even a chicken would count- and you got the bounty.

Yeah, I think your rune splashed over someone else. Maybe?

No, I remember clearly a Nord in Kynsgrove who will actually attack you with weapons, not brawl.

what level are you?? if your 30 or lower you might get called a milk drinker in skyrim by nords (my female imperial has been called that a few times) it basically means your weak, but if you have a small bounty put on you must have done something you don't know about or remember just pay it off. :D :tops:

Ash Shell will remove the target from combat. So you committed an assault with the rune.

Level 54 on Master. That NPC's an idiot.

I know, for certain, that the bounty was created after the fight started. I reverted to the point where my PC entered the inn and there was no bounty. The NPC mumbled something about milk drinker again but I just ignored it for the sake of moving forward with the quest.

The thing I don't understand is how the bounty came about given that the NPC was the first to hit. I thought self-defense was not considered criminal...

ahhhh - interesting. So any action that causes an opponents health bar to go away 'removes' him/her from combat? Good to know - and you're right. When my PC was standing over him, the 'Talk' action was available, not the health display. Thanks!

maybe you accidently hit another patron without knowing it.

or it's just a game bug.

And by the way, the Ash Shell spell is basically paralyze but only at Adept level without the expense of Paralyze at Expert level. As far as I can tell...
