Tamriel Realpolitik and the Skyrim Civil War

For one, independent Skyrim would have a better chance of negotiating with hammerfell than the Empire would at this point. Not guaranteed but a better shot. And if Wulfharth and Almalexia can make an alliance, I'm sure in the event of war when Cyrodiil only has High Rock (which is still up in the air), they can make a negotiation with their "strong arm".

Yet there's no evidence of such and is just as much hearsay as anything else. Except with no evidence to back it up.

Their alliance was Ayem making Wulf her plaything, she summoned him through magic meaning he didn't really have a choice. But here is the thing, those two are not a good examples "well if they could ally themselves against a common enemy that must mean EVERYONE would do it and can do it" which is not the case and not a good arguing point.

Ulfric also says he plans to attack the Dominion. Doesn't mean he can or will. Judging by Cicero's journal, Cyrodiil was in shambles and judging from that and the game novels, it's been on a long slide ever since the Oblivion Crisis. People talk about all the troops and resources the empire has, as if it's still the Septim empire.

If that is the case, then I am mistaken. Yet, strange alliances can be made in a time of war, and to dismiss the possibility is naive.

To be honest I have a bad feeling the Nords will likely get the short end of the deal if they make an alliance with Hammerfell or High Rock, I mean Ulfric may be the most political skilled leader in Skyrim, but compared with the kings of High Rock or the Forebears of Hammerfell his skills in politics are likely nowhere in the same league. His best chances is with the Crowns and even then the Crowns are known for being extremely xenophobic.

You know now with TESO Dunmer-Nord-Argonian alliance is canon I think that Hammerfell ,Skyrim and Empire can put up with their prejudice against each other for long enough to fight with a guys who actively threaten them all

They try screwing him over and they're left without an ally against the dominion. They'd be short ending themselves.

I avoided mentioning that example for a reason, which is I despise TESO's concept, and think those alliances are just so they could have their silly mmo feature of three groups fighting eachother. But I suppose it still supports the idea....

I feel the same but if that is suppose to be canon then there is no reason to belive that races of tamriel couldn't unite temporarly to fight common threat whichout big looming shadow of emperor commanding them to do it.

Hammerfell would likely support Skyrim because the Empire stabbed them in the back, High Rock would likely support the Empire because...well...they're in the Empire. Every other province (both Aldmeri Dominion and Dunmer/Argonian) likely do not care one bit.

You have something to work with right here and it is not no clear interest.

Morrowind shares a border with both Cyrodiil and Skyrim. If they both have about equal risk with regard to territorial ambitions, then what is the lesser of two evils one government on their western border with possible territorial ambitions or two?

As far as the Thalmor are concerned, what would be the prudent assumption (for the Dunmer given their differences), in realpolitik fashion, as far as their intentions? Benign or not benign?
