Never Played FO1 or FO2

After you play the Classic Fallout's, you'll never want to play Fallout 3 again.

That's not true, Fallout 3 definitely wasn't as good as the first two, but still an enjoyable game in my opinion, I enjoyed Fallout Tactics after playing the first two also.

I have to agree with this. The games are just too different.
(Far too different for a series installment IMO)

That's the funniest thing I've ever read.

I already finished Fallout and am now rampaging my way through Fallout 2 and I liked both games very much. However I also admit I purchased the Fallout Trilogy to pass the time while the final Fallout 3 DLC come out and am very much looking forward to playing that game again once I finish F2. My honest assesment is you place both originals in too high a pedestal, they are very good games but they aren't as great as you make them sound...but hey I'm glad you like them so much.

Tactics I've enjoyed, particularly I like the combat system better than the turned based mechanics of F1-F2, but overall the original 2 are much more enjoyable.

As different as F3 is from its predecessors, I like it just as much; even if for very different reasons.

My two caps...

I played FO1 and it's an okay game, nothing more. From reading some of the veterans' posts here, one would expect an almost life-changing experience but I find both Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale vastly superior. Maybe I just prefer a fantasy setting. I don't think I'll even bother with FO2.

Actually in that case I would recommend that you do try FO2. Apart from the setting I found it to be very similar to the infinity engine games.
(which kind of bothered me just slightly, because I liked the fresh approach of the first fallout, and for a moment there, FO2, in comparison, seemed to me like, hehe... Baldur's Gate with guns)

It's true, Fallout 2 isn't as combat-focused as Fallout 3, but unlike Fallout 1 you can't finish it without killing someone.

I do think some people place them on too high of a pedestal, but I do agree with them that Fallout and Fallout 2 are just better games than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 was a very shallow, hollow experience for me... no challenge... a soulless game world. Essentially what I've come to expect from Bethesda.

...Then why are you here? The reason it was probably so bad for you was because it didn't come up to par with Fallout 1 and 2. Think if it as it's own game, then try again.

These are the official Fallout forums, being a fan of the first two, I have just as much right to be here as you do. Just because I don't herald Fallout 3 as a work of perfection, and an excellent sequel to Fallout 1 and 2 doesn't mean that I am forbidden to post here.

I do, I think it's an okay game in its own right, but I think that it's a horrible sequel which I've pointed out many times. Fallout 3 would have been better marketed as a spin off than a sequel.

Well, if you're tired of people like me theres actually a forum all about fallout that has the same beliefs that you do. I'm sure you've heard of NMA?

You are right about that though, and I'm sorry.

I'm not tired of the fans of Bethesda and Fallout 3, what I'm tired of is being treated like I'm some bad guy just because I don't think Fallout 3 is a good sequel. I've not once insulted Bethesda's fanbase, let alone Fallout 3's. I've always given valid reasons when defending my position. I'm not singling you out here, but it happens all the time and not just to me.

And I wouldn't be welcome at NMA either, as they're a hivemind that operates on the opinion that Fallout 3 is just a bad game, period. I don't think that, while I think that Fallout 3 is a bad sequel I think it's a great game in its own right... my issues with it aside.

Believe it or not, the review for Point Lookout by one of them was pretty favorable. Course, one of the cons was "It's not Fallout enough".

Sorry if I'm sounding like a jerk, I couldn't get any sleep last night. Just sat there in bed all night. I've got nothing against you.

I just finished FO1... I'm not sure if I liked it or not to be honest.

FO2 was AMAZING. Nothing beats littering mobsters with Tommy Gun fire, blowing chunks out of people with high-powered gauss rifles, or mowing down caravans with a Bozar. I still never managed to figure out what the "GAME OVER" screen was about though.
