Illusion Restoration Build

Post » Thu Aug 29, 2013 6:06 am

Okay so I have an idea for a new build that focuses on illusion and restoration as my main skill. I'm not going to use destruction magic or any weapons. The only weapon I will use is the staff I acquire from the mage's guild, so I will have to choose that carefully.

Choosing the right build to make this work is the key, otherwise I believe that it'll be near impossible to play the game at higher levels. Illusion for command will be a useful if I find my self in situations when heavily out numbered, with spells such as calm, demoralise, frenzy and silence. The only "offensive" spell I will be absorb from Restoration. This with fortify, resist, restore and cure will keep me alive in battles and will make the backbone of my build.

Now comes the part of my build where I'm struggling because I only have two main skills and need another five. Not sure if I want to add more magic schools to the build because then it becomes just another magic build and I want to be more creative than that, but survive.

This is my build thus far, any input is welcome.

Illusion

Restoration

Alchemy

Light Armour

I would consider adding Mysticism. Detect Life is particularly useful for one who doesn't want to get into frequent close encounters. With no Destruction and no Bow, you might need Telekinesis to get at hard-to-reach things. And, of course, Soul Trap, to keep your staff charged and for enchanting.

I'd suggest picking the remaining majors as skills you will NOT use, so you don't level up too fast.

That's where alchemy comes in, potions like detect life, shield, reflect and restore magicka. Also my staff will be important to me as my only weapon. May choose destruction fire as I will need that against ghost, wisps ect. Alternatively may even go for paralyse, silence or telekinesis. Silence will serve me against necromancers and so will paralyse. Then telekinesis would compensate for the fact I'm not using alteration. Not using soul trap will then force me to go looking for gems and will make me be more careful with my staff.
