I have doubts as to whether this thread will be productive, but why not try.
I was going through the dialog in the Oblivion CS, and noticed that the tendency of NPCs to discuss between them almost exclusively about mudcrabs and goblins might be the result of an oversight. The question topic list that links to those conversations also allowed them to question other things, but because the questions that linked to those creature's discussions were at the top and didn't have the random flag, they got picked up pretty much always.
But technical details aside, there is recorded dialog for them to discuss books! They only mention common in-game books like Mysterious Akavir or Fundaments of Alchemy, but there's one exception: one of the responses mentions "Istunond?'s Cosmology":
This response is only given by nords and orcs (they share the same voice files), so I take it's a Nord name. But I can't find any references to that name, Google only drops it as mentioned in a dialog text dump for a certain project that may not be discussed here. Probably the reason is quite simply that there's no info about that author because it was never written to begin with, an idea for Oblivion that made its way to the voice acting before it was abandoned, or that there's another similarly named author but he was named incorrectly? I can't remember any particular "cosmology" books either.
Well, hypothesis are welcome, as well as any other discussion about things referenced in the code in this or other games for which there's not much to work with.
