Why no horses in the Mojave

Post » Tue Sep 03, 2013 4:01 am

Hey just wondering why were in the wild west of the Mojave desert with cowboy songs playing and their are no horses in the game ,we had them in Oblivion and Skyrim to ride but their not in FONV.

If we did have horses in FONV would they be mutated like the brahmins are and have 6 legs or 2 tails.

I would love to ride a 6 leged horse across the Mojave ,at least that way you would have a chance of out running a deathclaw hehe!!

Maybe in FO4 horses if the land is bigger.

Thanks

The Fallout Bible is non-canon unless Bethesda confirms it.

So horses aren't ruled out at this point.

Yeah but they have used it for canon a number of times. Sure, anything can change. The Bible was open-ended and left a lot out, since it really addressed very little. But for the time being, the only source on it is saying they are extinct... Except that comic that came out before new vegas written by the same guy which showed horses.... But it also showed an incorrect map of new vegas...

...So yeah I guess the ansewr is "Hell if I know." >_>

Long story short. They are said to be extinct and Chris Avellone didn't want horse and I am sure alot of other people working on Fallout New Vegas agreed with him.

Not to mention there are no horses in Fallout, Fallout 2, Tactics or Fallout 3.. Fallout 3 being made by Bethesda, I think it is safe to say that Bethesda says horses are also extinct.

You will see horses in "All Roads" but that was a mistake according to Chris and he and other devs didn't notice it till it was to late, but they went through New Vegas and removed referenses to horses in the game.

As for why they would be extict. Radiation would kill horses. Horses can't vomit and radiation would poison them and therefore kill them, they would choke on their vomit and die. My theory on that.

Well it is up to Bethesda, it is their series now. If they did introduce horses, I would hope they have a story about how traders brought them in from some remote region. That they are costly and expensive and not to mention there wouldn't be anyone who really knows how to take care of them or breed them. But people could learn, old veterinary books and so on. Maybe even have someone say "keep them away from radiation, radaway isn't cheap."

It would be nice if they did it right. Not just "hey there has always been horses but we just haven't bothered to show them till now." I know it isn't in Bethesda's nature to explain things but I would hope they learn to start doing that. If they brought horse back they should.

There is also the debate on cats being extinct or not. I would like to see cats because I don't believe they are gone, in Fallout 2 there is a lady talking about owning a cat when she was young, so we know they survived the Great War.

People also normally confuse the words extinct with extirpated. Extinct means gone completely, nowhere to be found on earth. Extirpated means it is wiped out in one area but still exists in another. So if lets say the people of the Core Region for some reason went around and ate all the cats or horses or what have you.. that doesn't mean those things can't be alive in Mexico, or Texas or in some other part of the world.
