Who Wears Clothes?

Post » Fri Sep 06, 2013 8:45 pm

so i was just wondering if anyone has actually done a play through wearing clothes instead of armor(like the field hand outfit or something along those lines) i had a fun idea for this play through. i am kind of thinking i am a fanatic/follower of elijah and after the events of dead money i decide i want to usurp him and carry on what he could not. i actually quite enjoy dead money and i thought i would use the holorifle and father elijah's robes. i know most clothes don't have high DT (the bounty hunter duster has a DT of 6 which i think is the highest for clothing). is this a death sentence waiting to happen?

I've never played beginning to end without using armor, but once my character is a little less vulnerable I like to switch to a settler outfit or a ranger outfit.

I played through a campaign wearing the US Army General outfit from Lonesome Road; to quote the Duke "Power armour is for pussies."

I've played wearing normal clothes, but it is hard to do so because even some of the basic outfits have armor. Best playthrough style for this is someone who is high in stealth and speech.

Also it wouldn't limit you wearing just normal clothes, as even special outfits sometimes have a bit of armor but are really useful for other things, like a rad suit to get through heavily radiated areas.

One of my favorite pieces of clothes is the Brotherhood Scribe outfits...really fits a "monk" class, but even they provide a little bit of armor (2 I think)

yeah i am taking about no light armor just things considered clothing. i will probably pick up a bright brotherhood robe from the good springs cave until i get to the brotherhood of steel to get a scribe outfit then finally elijah's robes after dead money. my thought is my character was a scribe with the brotherhood who followed elijah's teachings even once he went "mad" but when elijah left i did and ended up taking up the courier job to get some money to follow elijah around. i don't plan on using sneak at all since 2 of my recent play throughs involved sneak.

Since I use http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/43842//? I use clothes pretty often, actually. In the time-before-mods, I liked to wear clothes but carried some kind of armor (mostly medium one) with me and switched to this when things got hairy...

I always have a set of regular clothes with me, which I wear whenever I'm not out looking for trouble. For me, however, the ranger combat armor and helmet is the meanest and most awesome look in the game so I always wear that. Bonus that it provides awesome protection as well, but it also weighs a ton.

It might be tough if you're not using sneak, but it's certainly doable.

well my last play through was a dr. mobius play through and his armor only has a DT of 6. i was unarmed explosives and had to get all the toughness perks and the sub dermal implant. i used lots of med-x XD this character probably won't engage in combat unless he has to since his sole purpose is finding elijah and he won't stop until that happens. he is going to use the compliance regulator to stun people and get out of sticky situations. i am also gonna grab the flare gun for abominations. i think he will be more tactical without sneak if that makes sense.

When I roleplay, I wear clothes if it's fitting for my character.

That's the thing, even things that are considered clothing still can have a small armor rating.

EDIT: Just to clarify, AR and DT are pretty much interchangable since they essentially work the same way.

oh i know! though the dt of clothing is so low it's negligible. lol elijah's robes only have a dt of 2 so i will pretty much be taking full damage. getting 2 toughness and the sub dermal implant will help.

Ok that's what I was trying to convey, wasn't sure if I was being clear enough. I wasn't sure if you wanted strict clothing with absolutely no DT, which limits you to about half of the in-game items (all-DLC) that are marked as clothing, or just items marked as clothing. I typically had the Brotherhood Scribe robes or some type of Duster...of which the first had a DT of 2 and the other had a DT of 0. The Sheriff's Duster I came along first and wore that, but as the RP progressed and a robe became available, I used that. The Sheriff's Duster can be found in Primm early on, but get it before you complete the My Kind of Town quest if you want it.

So all in all, yeh it's very possible. Stealth is your friend though most of the time, and I loved up close and personal attacks with fist weapons along with some EMP grenades for them damn robots. If I needed more firepower, I pulled out a sniper rifle (mostly for the Deathclaws).

Anyways, good luck and keep your wits about you. It can be a difficult playstyle, patience is an absolute requirement.

like i said above i won't be using sneak as i have done it twice recently and makes the game a cake walk. i will use a more tactical approach instead of using a stealth boy and sneaking past with silent running. i am gonna avoid combat when possible and the energy weps i am using will help when i get into combat situations and need to get out. the flare gun and compliance regulator will help me make it out and if i have to fight i will have my holorifle.

the bounty hunter duster is considered clothing and also had a DT of 6. those 2 are probably the highest dt clothing items.
