So everyone like Roggvir going around saying duels are a traditional Nord way of settling disputes/ earning leadership rights are all Skaal castouts. Mm hm.

As I've stated a lot the whole idea of nords dueling could be misinformation based on the tongue dueling, which is essentially just violent debates as Paarthunax stated. It's entirely possible that dueling among regular people wasn't a thing but between tongues, we have no actual hard evidence that nords in ancient skyrim dueled and we can't use the nords of Thirsk because they aren't from skyrim, they are from the skaal village which hasn't had contact with skyrim for a very long time seeing as they were isolationists.

Misinformation and misinterpreting ancient legends is very much a thing and it's possible that it's still a thing in Tamriel due to mortals not being all knowing, we can't take mortal opinion as 100% hard truth.

Thing is, you have theory and headcanon, she has a link to Nords doing so....and those Nords in Thirsk didn't just drop from Lunar Lorkhan. Unless someone tells me Nords came from masser and secunda and dropped down to solstheim, I'm pretty sure we can count this, considering who they came from.

I think the neutral option ruins the poll because there is no neutral option in every question. Those who voted neutral have had to vote in empire or stormcloak questions.

Stormcloaks win CW *blah blah blah*
4E 202, Ulfric climbs the 7,000 steps and requests the greybeards teach 50 Nords the Thu'um for the 2nd great war. Arngeir accepts and only because there is a 'True Need' for the Thu'um.
4E 211, Stormcloaks start the 2nd great war. Hammerfell and Cyrodiil join forces with the Stormcloaks.
4E 214, The tongues are sent to fight in the war.
4E 217, Great war 2 ends, Humans win.

The nords from Thirsk came from Skaal Village which has it's own culture entirely unique from skyrim's culture, the Nords from thirsk probably set up a culture all their own when they left the Skaal, stating that the Thirsk nords follow the traditions and culture of the nords of skyrim can be considered wrong until we have a source saying the nords of Thirsk followed the traditions and culture of skyrim.

skaal culture =/= skyrim
Thirsk culture =/= skyrim or skaal

Doesn't mean they have the same culture, sure they have the same background but they can change cultures.

Redguards have the same background yet the Forebears reject the yokudan culture over their own, the Dunmer originate from Alinor yet they reject the altmeri culture and culture can also change for instance ashlander culture is based off of Velothi culture but as a whole the ashlander cultural melting pot is different depending on which tribe you goto, same for the houses they all originate from velothi culture but eventually each house created their own culture. There is nothing stating that the skaal or thirsk have adopted Skyrim's culture seeing as the Skaal are more focused on anuic influence and they openly despise the greedy man aka Lorkhan and Thirsk's culture is more based around hunting and sports.

Yes they derive from the same background but they eventually became their own entirely independent culture with it's own traditions so we can't say that skaal culture is like Skyrim because that's obviously wrong from how the tribe is portrayed in Morrowind and Dragonborn, same goes with Thirsk, all three cultural are their own things the only similarities they have is that they share the same racial background.

Yet its not stated that they do have their own culture unlike those examples you gave. We have Nords on the mainland saying they hold duels in the old times, then Thirsk mead hall Nords doing this, who used to be Skaal who derived from the old Nords and stopped being Skaal....

Add two and two. Its not hard.

Yes because the nords CLEARLY were the only ones to duel and obviously they created dueling.

Just because it is BELIEVED that nords of skyrim dueled doesn't mean that means the Thirsk nords followed skyrim's culture, which they obviously don't.

Bethesda gave us no reason to believe they didn't. You only go against it because you're anti Ulfric. You've got all these people saying they dueled in the old days, but Cider! thinks they're all wrong. Why? What evidence do you have that even remotely points to that possibility?

And they don't have much culture of their own. They sure don't follow Skaal culture, so who's culture are they emulating, hmm?
