The Necromancy thread

Post » Tue Sep 10, 2013 11:42 pm

After I remade Hrafna (Now called Leysa, which is Norse for tear.) I realized how much I love Necromancy in the first place. Leysa still has the same personality traits. But she has a different build. Trained into stealth, illusion, the dagger and my favourite, Necromancy, which I will come with later. Figure it, a mentally unstable and depressed girl capable of not only killing, but also of raising deadmen and manipulating the mind of people. Despite this, she's still chaotic good, as before. She could even calm down people, only to fade in the shadows to put an end to it without them realizing.

Now back to topic, Necromancy. If my character doesn't want to sneak, which is about 50/50, then she can just put an end to somebody and raise him/her as ally, then she could just successfully take their enemies as a supporting, or even a damage dealing role.

So yeah, lord Hevnoraak, your doomed maiden is back, Potema will be jealous.

What I love so much about Necromancy is that it can go different directions. It isn't always that ''evil'' trait where you want to dominate everything. It could be turned around as a tool to punish the evil and to rescue the innocent. And also, Necromancy in Skyrim is awesome. From raising corpses to getting http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120808203919/elderscrolls/images/thumb/b/b0/WrathmanSC.png/250px-WrathmanSC.png Just awesome.

PS: Do note that ''dark'' has nothing to do with evil, nor does ''light'' has anything to do with good.

If I call something dark or light, magic in this case, it will be based on aesthetics and atmosphere.

Necromancy is my favourite kind of magic, I wish there was a guild that you could join for it. In oblivion I wanted to join with the King of Worms rather than the mages guild, they're just so boring, always doing "what is right" rather than anything fun like raising the dead.

Who says darkness can't be right? :D

I'd love to see an undead skeleton save children from a burining orphanage! That'd be great!

I'm sure the children would be terrified, relieved that they were saved from a burning building, but terrified of their skeletal saviour.

Going to be clear on this.

In TES there is no such thing as "Light" or "Dark" magic, magic in it's nature is neutral it all depends on how the user uses the spells. Basically magic is a natural tool, tools can't be good or bad but the one who uses the tools are. So saying there is "Light" or "Dark" magic is just ignorant.

That's just my way of thinking. As I don't view ''dark and light'' as ''evil and good'', not ''good and evil'' either. I call something dark or light based on the atmosphere. I don't base darkness or light on morale standing.

I view Illusion and Necromancy as dark. And restoration as light.

It really isn't, that's just mortal ignorance. Everything is magical once broken down to the basics since magic is the most natural thing in TES, calling any form of magic "dark" "light" "bad" "evil" "good" is ignorant and wrong seeing as it all depends on the user of said magic, this includes necromancy.

With all respect, I really don't see the problem in calling something ''dark'' or '''light''.

Morally it may be unaccurate, but aesthetically and atmospherically it's more of a personal view.

Terms like these also help certain people to connect the magic with the character.

If the character is dark, aesthetically and/or personally, then I can perfectly understand why the magic used would be called ''dark'' aswell. To me, nature has both the elements of darkness and light depending on the current atmosphere.

The problem with it is that people will mistake it as being "evil" or "good" which spreads ignorance about something and convinces them that saying said thing you called "dark" or "light" is actually "evil" or "good" despite it being neither and will start up arguments like this, it's better to be accurate than spread ignorance.

Hmmm...I guess so. I'll edit the post.

I personally have a feeling that most here understand the difference between darkness and evil, but that may just be me.
