Sneaking Makes NV A Joke?

Post » Wed Sep 11, 2013 8:19 pm

so does anyone else feel like sneak makes new vegas a joke? with 50+ sneak pretty much u can sneak anywhere if u are careful adding a stealth boy breaks the game and silent running makes the game a joke. i have made a few different sneak characters and each time after my sneak got moderately high nothing found me and i could sneak kill just about anything. what are peoples thoughts on sneak in NV?

not really it's rather the opposite: NV makes sneaking a joke. Sure it's nice, but as soon as you hit someone, it instantly drops down to either (CAUTION) or (DETECTED) which than goes into (DANGER) and sneaking becomes useless. There's quite a bit of variables that make Sneaking even harder to use, yet it also has the smallest buff after 50 Sneak skill (in fact, I think it actually ENDS after 50, like no more benefits come out of it, thus, you're just dumping points into it for perks or speech options), Skyrim is the exact end of the stick, making everything a joke as soon as you crouch to the point it's a boring game.

Try it out without the silent running perk. I feel that omitting the perk makes sneak viable and less broken.

I never use stealth boys when being stealthy is my plan for attack. If I want to be invisible, well that's a different story.

Silent Running only affects your running/walking speed while crouching, If you're wearing power armor or medium armor, you're still likely to get caught no matter what.

but i can sneak in front of people with a stealth boy on and never get caught. and if u have a melee or silenced weapon even going into caution u can run and go back into hidden. i don't like using sneak in NV or skyrim cause there is no skill in it. yeah i know you don't have to take silent running or any sneak perks for that matter but then it's like using guns and taking no combat perks or using melee but not taking any melee perks. you can certainly do that but the perks are there for a reason. i would never wear heavy armor or medium armor while playing a stealth character. i know NV is not as bad as skyrim in terms of sneaking completely breaking the game but it's still pretty bad.

Sneaking is way harder than in FO3.....once you have the CSS and a high sneak you're the Angel of Death and can kill with impunity. NV is considerably better, Skyrim is as bad as FO3.

you can sneak in front of people because you're obviously using a Stealth Boy. A Crutch. You're not a true sneaking player IMO because that device is such a gimp to use. Of course you're gonna be undetected, it f%cking CLOAKS YOU.

Try sneaking without and I can assure you, you would take back every response. Sneaking is especially hard when you stop using that damn "FORGIVE ME" item.

but you don't need a stealth boy. with high sneak u can easily sneak around places undetected. yeah u cant stand in front of someone but there is a really low chance u will get caught otherwise. i won't take back anything i said cause i have tried sneaking with all perks and without some. also the only time i use a stealth boy is if i absolutely don't want to fight a group of people and want to just get in or get out. i actually don't carry around stealth boys cause they are dead weight. i was making a simple point not saying every time i sneak i always use a stealth boy. i may be in the minority with thinking sneak is too easy and that's fine. we all have opinions.

Did you like....buy this game and sneak past Powder Gangers and determine sneak is god tier based on that alone?

I don't know what game you're playing (sounds like Skyrim), but I certainly can't sneak directly in front of people unless I have a stealth boy.

The sneak system in a nutshell:

-If it seems like an enemy should be able to spot you, they probably will.

-Any non-silenced firearm will immediately cause caution, if not danger.

-Touching an enemy, even with a stealth boy, means they'll locate you. Typically enemies will start going in the right direction, meaning you have to stay mobile with a stealth boy to avoid detection.

-Stealth boys are highly finite. Good luck spamming them.

If you truly insist sneaking is still broken? Crank the difficulty up. Good luck getting single-shot kills with the stealth weapons, at which point sneaking will really lose it's shine.

Hell, I can't even sneak from a distance when my target is a Deathclaw. Almost every time I try to sneak attack one of them with my Hunting Rifle, they'll spot me and come charging. The biggest problem I have with sneaking in the game is having companions in tow. As soon as I get in a single shot, they'll open fire on the enemy and blow my cover.
