Huge cells, performance, load screen hang & CTDs

Some players have told they've had a cell in my mod get stuck in the loading screen or simply crash upon entering. This has happened when entering the cell from vanilla Tamriel worldspace and the cell has worked better when entering from another interior cell. Exiting the cell to Tamriel works fine as far as I know. Texture and graphic improvement mods seem to have a big impact on this. The cell is huge, with 6500-7000 objects.

So, what I'm asking is, is there anything to be done? I am aware of the "purgatory" and other fixes for entering a custom worldspace from a big interior cell, but do they apply to this and how exactly would my problem differ from the custom worldspace issue?

Have you optimised your cell with occlusion?

If you mean optimizing with roombounds and occlusion planes/cubes, yeah. (Oh, what a pain it was.) Some objects (a lot of the NPCs, for example) are also disabled by default and later enabled via triggers.

The "beginning" is Tamriel end of the cell and "the other end" is another custom interior cell. This actually sounds like the "purgatory cell" could fix the problem. I'm concerned about loading the cell from the main menu, though.
