Fallout 1 = fake freedomplayers' choice?

Post » Sat Sep 14, 2013 4:00 pm

when i started with fallout 1 about 1 week ago i put it aside after getting some tips and reading 2-3 guides (keeping spoilers to a minimum!) read about overall tips and character creation.

http://user.tninet.se/~jyg699a/fallout.html

it seems fallout 1 gives you the freedom to create your character and develop like you want, but if the guide is correct many skills, perks etc. are nonsense, the game has also many bugs which happen and so on, so you cannot really play like you wanted.

so is this correct? and is it fixed in fallout 2? im a bit sad to read that but the same time i think for a first title of the series it might be not the big issue, well im creating my new character now with the guides and hope to be prepared then.

There are patches out there to fix bugs and put back things that were taken out. There are some bugs that were never fixed such as

Spoiler
The Followers of the Apocalypse being wiped out no matter what

No Mutants Allowed has these patches, I am sure someone will come along and post the links for them.

One thing Fallout 2 put in to solve an annoying problem in Fallout 1 is the ability to move people out of your way. In Fallout you can walk into a room and have someone come along and block the only way out..

One problem that was never really fixed by Fallout 2, Tactics, Fallout 3 or New Vegas is Charisma being pretty much next to useless.

Granted, there are almost no games that have really done charisma, or similar systems, justice. :) Even when the mechanics are good they tend to boil down to a "you have unlocked X" or "you have avoided Y" and then you feel like you've cheated yourself out of gameplay. Bloodlines did this well, although I found looking too closely dispelled some of the illusion. Torment is one of the few real exceptions, since you tended not to mind avoiding a fight due to the quality of dialogue you unlocked.

Not to de-rail or anything, but Alpha Protocol was the same way. Even though there were many skills, only the Assault/Guns Blazing/Rambo Build was truly the only way to play that didn't involve glitches or bugs.
