Problems with oblivion

Post » Tue Apr 20, 2010 9:05 am

Hello guyz? Wassup?

Recently ive installed a new GPU on my machine, an XFX HD 583X-ZAFV (i was moving from Nvidia to ATi). After installed i was hoping to finally run oblivion on the highest settings at 60 fps. Well, i can't.

First of all, after try both the driver that came with the card n the last catalyst driver my card wasn't recognized by oblivion. But i modified some instructions on .ini n set bAllow30shaders =1 n swap the shaders files on data\shaders folder. Ok, i was able to play on the highest settings, but after write tdt on console for my surprise i see the 37 - 45 fps on the upper left corner. WTF!

Should i start a vanilla install or something? Some1 can help me with this problem, saying if my rig is good enough?

My rig is :

Intel C2Q Q9550 2.8 GHz
Asus P5Q-E
XFX HD 583X-ZAFV 1GB GDDR5 256 bit
2 HDD Seagate 320GB 7200 rpm SATA II
Corsair PSU 650 W
Kingston 4GB RAM DDR2 800 MHz

I ve tried both on XP 32 bit n 7 64 bit

I don know even after install the 2nd disc from GOTY i was not able to see the advanced options or quality presets on launcher (i dunno =\)

Any help ill be apreciated! ^^

Thanx n ve a good new year!

The game engine isn't very well optimized so even having top end gear won't guarentee that you'll be able to crank your FPS up at the highest settings. 37-45 is a respectable range for the game, I'd suggest just living with it rather than get all concerned about it. That's probably as good as it gets regardless of what kind of equipment you have.

Hum but maybe we should accept the fact that some rigs posted here on forums with similar processing power was able to run it at 60fps, right? Is a little creep move from MSI 9800 GTX+ to this ATi card n ven't a big boost on fps =\

In fact this fps range is good, i agree. But im a little dissapointed to not reach "that" 60 fps. Of course the Vsync is enabled but playing games w/o syncronization is annoying imo. Im curious to know if some1 reach 60fps all the time with vsync enabled ^^'

My Rig:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black @3.4ghz
4GB DDR3 Ram
ATI HD 4890 1Gb vid card
Sound Blaster Audigy II sound card. (yes, it is hardware accelerated.)
Windows XP x64.

I can hit 60 FPS in interior cells, even running Qarl's texture pack 3, redimized. Outdoors, runs between 40, and 55. In towns, and especially in IC Waterfront..... gets into the low thirties. So far as I am concerned, STELLAR performance. Far superior to my old machine.

But, you also have to keep in mind, that my machine is HIGHLY optimized for games. There are NO extraneous processes running in the background when I play. Nothing. Just what the machine needs to run the game. (well, along with a little bit of other stuff. I don't shut down the network, or things of that nature. And I don't run any flavor of anti-malware constantly anyway.... )

I've never read any post where someone is getting a consistent 60 FPS outdoors. Many people have come to realize that using high end gear while playing the game just doesn't make any difference due to the limitations of the game engine.
