Howdy folks, I'm an oldtimer from the days of Morrowind, and I remember the Morrowind Mods forum being a fantastic place to get good advice. Now I'm looking for some from you guys.
I played Skyrim on 11-11-11, and got frustrated with it within a couple months due to the level of bugs (both in gameplay and in skills). Now I'm thinking of giving it another shot with the "Legendary" edition available on steam.
Now to the point, I don't like how vanilla Skyrim handles staves:
A) They're not customizable (I can't make custom spell amplitude, duration, etc.)
B ) Using them causes no skill gains
C) The enchanting perk on recharging enchanted items doesn't work on staves.
D) My enchanting skill does little for my staff skill (except recharging with soul gems gets easier... is that right?)
E) I can't whack someone with my staff when they get in close!
I want to build a class as so:
No health or magicka gains on level up, only stamina (my first char did the same with only levelling magicka, and no armor, it's fun living on the edge)
Main skills:
Block
Enchanting
Archery
Alchemy
Sneak
Pickpocket
Alteration
The idea is a character with a shield in one hand and a staff in the other, and a huge bag of staves on his back (like a golf bag). No armor, rather just a cloak. He's got little health and magicka, but can carry a ton, and can shield bash like no-one's business. He uses his carry space for potions and ingredients, as well as a plethora of variously enchanted arrows. His only true magical abilities are in alteration, which allows him to shield himself from his foes, and light his way ahead. Instead of hurting fellow humans, he sneaks past them, and takes what he needs. Anyway, with the current system, I'm out of luck for this being viable. Mostly because charge cost is dependent on magic school skill level, and using the staff doesn't increase that skill's level. So what I'm looking for is a mod to:
A) Make staves cost formula depend on enchanting skill instead of the school of magic
B ) Make casting staves increase enhanting skill
C) Have an alternative means for recharging staves (magicka drain perhaps?)
D) Make staff enchanting more customizable
E) Whack enemies with my staff when they get too close (I suppose I could just use a skinned 1-handed mace)
F) Likely nerf staves since with the above changes they could be OP in current state
Is this doable with creation kit? I did a search for these type of mods, and didn't come up with much. There was the "Staves of Skyrim" mod that looked OK, but was missing several of the above - perhaps it could be combined with others.
Any mods you guys use that covers any of this?
