It's such a drag when Skyrim is so busted

Post » Tue Sep 17, 2013 3:54 am

I can never complete a quest without resorting to uesp.net console command. I have no mods that affect these quests or locations.

In Thieves Guild, Karliah will simply turn around and walk out of the cave instead of opening the gate. As she is the only one able to open it, this will render the quest impossible to complete. Solution, delete gate then setstage tg08a 52 to continue the quest.

Main quest, Esbern does'nt unlock the door. Solution, skip forward to the start of the next quest, http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Alduin%27s_Wall, by using the console and typing in setstage MQ203 5, which will allow you to continue. But his dialogue remains in the sewer so I can not continue the dragon hunt.

The Companions can't be cured when requested as they don't follow the player or emediately walk out the tomb with no dialogue.

The Storm Cloaks/Imperial, Battle for Whiterun, random CTD on the battle field. Main door, CTD use basemant door. Battle for Solitude/Windhelm, random CTD on the battlefield, CTD on activating main gate, so much for those questlines. Yet players still clammer for the next busted TES game?

Not everyone runs into the same issues. If they did, it might be easier for Beth to fix things.

I know it doesn't help any, but I've never run into the Esbern won't unlock the door glitch. I've been able to cure the Companions every time I've run through their quests. I did hit a problem with the battle for Whiterun, or actually, after the battle for Whiterun. The drawbridge was up, and nothing I did could get it back down. I ended up reloading from before the battle started. I had one issue one time with the fight for Windhelm; I kept trying to open the door too soon, and ended up glitching Tullius. A reload helped in that case.

With people on pc, there are a lot of variables, I guess. One person can play through without problems, other people have massive amounts of issues.

Setting stages in the Esbern quest might help the no dialogue problem, instead of just going to the end of the quest - journal entries can be touchy; Use console command setstage MQ202 (stage #) to force Esbern to open the door and talk again. Stage 160 makes Esbern open the door, if bugged. Stage 170 makes Esbern talk again, if bugged.

I did all of the recommended options in the right order, none made a difference except moving on to the stage.

I have no idea, in that case. It does seem as though something major was happening in your game to cause all those problems. There are usually people here who might be able to help, if you are still interested.

hmm... you sure your PC meets the reqs? I've never had these issues, and been playing through launch.....

can you post us your PCs DxDiag Report for us to gloss over?

and how much do you use the Console exactly? extensive use of it (even if only using TGM or adding Money) has been know to bug quest scripts on occasion...

Hmm, I haven't had any of the issues you are having, but I intend to avoid using console commands alltogether.

The Unofficial patches really help, maybe you should try them n a new game.
