Forgot How Good This Was

Wow.

Just been playing it for first time on pc from Anthology (originally had it on xbox 360) and I've got to say, it feels a lot more old skool in comparison to skyrim. The menus remind me of Morrowinds, and I really love how you can see your full character in menu, something I really miss in skyrim.

I also love the way magic works on this, and how your armour degrades really fast and you have to repair it. Just seems a lot more RPG involved. I like :)

I played as a Khajit. A race I've never really played with before...so I just went back to Skyrim and made a new character on there too. Again, a Khajit.

Anyway, Oblivion - I have missed you.

I went straight to the Oblivion gate to fetch Martin on lvl 1...bad idea haha!

I seem to remember the enemies level up with you on this...and that it's probably easier to go into the gates at about lvl 4/5.

So I will enjoy myself questing in the meantime :)

Actually it is a brilliant idea to go trough that part of the main quest on low level as it gives you amazing gear for that time. The Imperial Armor you can get is basically steel armor (lvl 3), than you can get chainmail armor (lvl 6) and you get all steel weapons basically (lvl 2-3.. with exceptions of skeletons), you get horse, you can get Dremora weapon - basically usefull only on low levels (longsword is like dwarwen - so 6 to 10 lvl, claymore like glass - lvl 12, mace like steel - do not pick up useless, bows are also bad), you get your first two enchantment gear.... it is amazing benefit for lvl 1 character.

Oblivion is a great game. You always feel welcome when returning to older games. It's also fun to know about what will happen in the future era.

Yep! Especially if you add a few mods to add to the complexity of the gameplay. I've got COBL, which does a bunch of stuff, but my favorite thing it does may be how it revamps birthsigns and races to make them much more complicated. No more birthsigns that only do a couple of things. The COBL ones each affect like six or eight things. Same with racial abilities.

Then I've got Supreme Magicka, which makes the magic system way more complex, more spells, staff enchanting, more complex fdrmulas for magic regeneration, etc. Enhanced Economy to make the economy and bartering more complex (I disabled auto haggle and set it so you cannot barter with the merchant until the next day if you fail your third haggle attempt).

And a bunch of "immersion" mods, like Basic Primary Needs, Basic Personal Hygene and Basic Physical Activities. Now my characters have to pay attention to when and where they sleep, what they eat and how often, where they swim, what stuff they touch (loot a wolf and your hands get dirty which may cause you to get a disease the next time you eat), etc. Plus he can sprint and fatigue functions much more like it did in Morrowind.

I found most of these mods in the vanilla modding thread, and now my game feels way more old school than the Xbox version. Everything except the graphics. COBL goes a long way towards fixing the potato face, and QTP3 makes the game look just amazing graphics-wise. It's like an old skool game with modern graphics.

I love vanilla and played it for years on Xbox, but if you have got a PC and you like old skool games, you may want to look at some of these mods.
