were birds always immune to attacks? (& insects) : V

I could swear when I first got Skyrim I could shoot the birds out of the sky at Solitude.

I know I can shoot the crows from dawnguard as I have ingredients i have collected from them.

Maybe I am mixing the two memories and just imagining I did shoot the birds.

I was wondering about what creature run combat code and or are actually "thinking" actors (or not).

So from a few minutes of testing I think I see that:

Most fish do not but the slaughter fish do.

Most Birds do not? But the Crows do.

All insects that are smaller than "a bread box" (more or less) do not.

By the way, there are small ANTS marching (crawling) in a line on a tree stump near riverwood, is this the ONLY one? I have not been able to find another. Has anyone else?

You can harvest some of these, like the Hawks for their Beaks and Feathers.

Edit The insects are harvested by activating them, not killing them first then harvesting the corpse. Perhaps the birds are the same way, don't know, I have only killed crows.

they say : “Can be shot once, Once they respawn, they become invincible.”

I must have some glitch then as I know I did not shoot down that many and yet they are now ALL (at least all the one ins solitude) invincible.
