When I became Guild master of the thieves guild, thieves by the roadside gave me a 500 coin tribute.

Since I became Arch-Mage though the dialogue from the thieves has changed and they not only do not give me any money, but I can not tell them that I am the Guild Master.

What can I do to change that back.

Sadly, I don't think there is anything you can do except for reloading and not becoming archmage.

Isn't their recognition tied to what you wear? I seem to remember hearing that they only recognized you as Guildmaster if you were actually wearing the Guildmaster's armor.
