I have Dawngaurd but didn't buy it

Post » Wed Sep 25, 2013 6:55 am

Hello everyone, I am new to the forums as I haven't been super active with Skyrim all that much. I play it occasionally when I want to take a break from other games and I am diving back into it again. I've been playing Skyrim again for about 2 days now and I just updated my game. I believe it is now on patch 1.9.32.0.8 but something struck me funny earlier. I was walking down the road in front of Whiterun and a passing gaurd made a comment that the Dawngaurd were reforming and their new headquarters were in the old fortress southeast of Riften. This is really confusing to me because I have NOT purchased any expansion at all.

Being a little skeptical I was starting to notice things added in. Firstly I can now make some bug helmet with my blacksmithing, gaurds are now talking about vampires attacking people brazenly on the roads, and the vampires I have killed for bounty quests now have what looks to be the armor in Dawngaurd. So yeah I'm pretty excited that I have an expansion for free haha.

I got my game on disc when it first came out so I don't know if this is just an update to Legendary because I've had the game all this time or what. I was mainly hoping that someone would please be able to answer this question. Did they update Skyrim so that it comes with Dawngaurd? And if so will Hearthfire and Dragonborn also be in my game as well? Or is this just some goof on the developers end?

Do you have anyone else that shares your Steam account or PC? Or do you think it was gifted to you?

I think someone on the Steam Powered User Forums was experiencing the same issue as described in OP, let me see if I can find it. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3142494 seems like the issue means great fortune for all whom fall under it.But worrying that it might mean something bad might happen if the issue ever gets resolved.

I just checked Facebook, and people over there are saying they got this "update" as well even though they never bought the DLC. Mistake?

Yeah, so I would enjoy it as much as you can. As I think once Valve gets wind of it, no more free Dawnguard for you.

They can pull it from your account, right? Just wondering so some of those lucky ones do not get too comfy with it.

True, forgot about the .esp file still being there. Well, no doubt this was a mistake as it seems some are reporting (in the Steam forums/discussions) that Valve already took away the license. Obviously, as you said, the file is still there. Bethesda must be ruffled right now!

Maybe Behesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios decided to transition all regular The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim versions to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition? I know Capcom is doing this with Street Fighter a new version has all the DLC added for free if you already purchased it and had no DLC + Games for Windows Live (GFWL) got removed as well.

So maybe The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is getting a similar update like Street Fighter?

I checked steam now and I did not get the Dawnguard DLC. I am in Scandinavia. Does that make a difference?

Wouldn't we have gotten dragonborn and hearthfire as well? I bought hearthfire, but not the others.
