Infinite loading screen and lad

Post » Wed Sep 25, 2013 10:10 am

I just got skyrim, without any mods(other than the official DLC's and latest update). When I ran the game for the first time, the launcher set my settings to High. On playing the game, I started a new game and played with no problem at all, The next day I played, on clicking continue, or loading the saved game the loading screen kept on playing. After lots of time, I pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del and started task manager. The game then quit the loading screen loop and started to play with a huge amount of lag. Now even if I start a new game, the same things happen.

Things I tried :

1)Uninstall and reinstall - I can again start a new game due to this without lag, but I can't continue or load.

2)No update or DLC's.

3)Load a previous savegame and then loading latest savegame.

Is this because of windows 8.

or because I have a 64 bit operating system(cause the game works perfectly on a 32 bit Vista operating system)

Sorry for the wrong title(I can't figure how to change it after posting a new topic)

It's not because the windows 8 and for sure not because the 64 bit version.

If you have done that (ctrl+alt+delete) on vista maybe you have encountered the same problem.

I play it on windows 8 - 64 bit too. :wink:

So you have reinstalled you game again.

Do a error checking on your HDD. (C:\ -> right click [Properties] -> Tools tab -> Check

After that verify your game cache files. (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)

Then try to start a new game with a new character.

(disable your antivirus, and try to play it off line - so steam in offline mode)

thanks for answer, but no errors found.

Another thing is that on researrching I found that you can check log by changing the papyrus option in skyrim.ini(My Docs folder), but I do not have this option at all. My skyrim.ini is as follows :

[Display]
sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M "
[Grass]
b30GrassVS=0
[Water]
bReflectLODObjects=1
bReflectLODLand=1
bReflectSky=1
bReflectLODTrees=1
[General]
sLanguage=ENGLISH

1. First, Enable Papyrus Logging by opening your Skyrim.ini file located at [YourWindowsUsername] \ Documents \ My Games \ Skyrim \ Skyrim.ini

2. Find the [Papyrus] heading (or if it doesn't exist, create it at the end of the file) and add the following:

[Papyrus]
bEnableLogging=1
bEnableTrace=1
bLoadDebugInformation = 1

3. Enter your game. If it crashes to desktop, hopefully it will log the errors you've encountered. If this is the case skip ahead a bit to step 5.

4. Play the game for a while. When it starts lagging up or giving you problems, open console by hitting the ~ key and type 'dps' without the quotes. This will dump a log file to your My Games/Skyrim directory.

5. Open up [YourWindowsUsername] \ Documents \ My Games \ Skyrim \ Logs \ Script \ Papyrus0.log
(the newest log will always be appended with a 0)

-------------------------------------

beside that, it's useful only by CTD's errors and if playing with mod's.

but you can try of course... :wink:

Papyrus can't log any errors related to crashes, because it simply won't have time to write them to a file. It only logs script errors from Papyrus and those are almost never the cause of a crash. So there's no real reason to be playing with logging enabled as it will just make the game even more slaggy.

You should make sure your video drivers are up to date and delete the inis and let Skyrim recreate them (do not make any changes to them). You could also try to manually set the setting to medium instead of the high that the game suggests.
