I leveled smithing making dwarf bows. I chose refine arcane armor/weapons perk in smithing. It worked great. I was refining weapons and armor - mostly elven as that is what I use (I also have craft elven armor perk). I went to enchant an elven sword. Enchant worked great as usual. I went outside my house to refine that weapon I just enchanted. I had the correct moonstone ingot. But I got the old up-in-the-left-hand-corner popup telling me I wasn't high enough level to refine enchanted weapons.

Again: I have the perk to enchant weapons. I have refined elven blades many times. I have refined enchanted elven objects many times.

The newest things I have done was get the light armor perk and the more treasure perk if that has any baring? Any ideas why my refine arcane weapons/armor stopped working suddenly?

Are you sure you didn't already refine/improve that sword before you enchanted it? It's possible that you already improved it before enchanting it.

Nope. It was a random pick up I stowed on my follower. He seems to like it so I was enchanting and refining it for him. Since my refining is at "epic" stage now if I had refined it already it would have that tag to it. Thx for trying to think of something I might have missed tho. I am full of mess ups but this time it's the game and not me. What frustrates is I'm googling nothing on the subject. Like I'm the only one to suffer this glitch.

Again my game is Xbox with only the Hearthfire addon. This happen at my Faulkreath house, Lakeview Manor. Unless it happened before that and I wasn't aware until I tried enchanting and refining at home.

PS: Actually I remember I got it from killing a Thalmor. But it had no refinement or enchants on it.

Resolved!

It was an Elven War Axe, btw. I handed it back to my follower, logged completely out of the game, logged back in, took it off my follower. Then I could refine it at the grindstone at my home with the enchant that I placed on it already there. I was in such a panic because I worked hard at smithing just so I could refine arcane items. I was afraid I might have lost the ability forever in a past scripting error.

I had something similar happen early this week with Hearthfire's quarried stone. I walked up to mine it one day and it just wouldn't no matter what I tried. I have all three Hearthfire homes. Like logging, quarries are interconnected to each other even tho they're unlimted. Every quarry failed. I had to return to a prev point in game which I hate because I get confused on what I have done or not done.

Well at least this thread exists now in case anyone else googles this problem they'll know they were not the only one.
