Been playing this game since release, I can't count the number of characters I have created nor the hours spent. But I have never actually finished the game.
OK, I have gone as far as the final battle in the MQ once. But, I did not complete that. In all my characters, they have never actually finished the last part of the Main Quest, no matter who I work with during the lead up. I used to think that I was failing at the game, but that did not bother me too much, as I am more a Journey than a Destination kind of guy.
The other night I was watching the last part of Wargames and Joshua said the line "....The only winning move is not to play...". I started thinking about FNV and how I have never finished it. Then it struck me, in the game, all of these factions are waiting around for me to do something (because it's a game and they have to). Until I do, they are happy to sit tight and wait. Until I trigger the final events, there is no final battle. To me, War is distasteful as systematically killing someone to change their mind has never made sense to me. The tagline of the series is, War, War Never Changes. Well, in my approach, War does change as I don't let it happen.
So, I win the war by not letting it happen. Now, I know in the real world, someone would take the shot that gets things started. But, I have come to the conclusion that the best way to win the game is to not let the final battle happen.
