Mods with optimistic endings

Post » Sat Sep 28, 2013 4:20 am

Could somebody please suggest some big mods, not just 1 or 2 quests, but something like Tears of the Fiend or Nehrim (although Nehrim isn't really a mod). The important things is that these mods must have the possibility of an optimistic ending, or at least not one that makes you want to hang yourself out of depression. Just today I abandoned the idea of playing TOTF that I had already started because

Spoiler
the epilogue in the readme says that no matter what you do, nothing will change for the better - Cleon dies, Armindale gets destroyed etc.

And now I am reading this about Nehrim

Spoiler
Every mage, every friend, every ally you develop during the story line gets killed off later.

Seriously, people, is there at least some optimistic mod with a long, complicated story that doesn't carry sadness and depression, but at least some idea of hope at the end? I will be extremely grateful if you suggest some.

http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/40757//? is my favourite (but I'm biased, lol).

I remember "AFK_Weye" and "Feldscar" each giving me warm fuzzies. I wouldn't call either large, but they each have a decently long chain of quests attached. Mind you, I don't have much to compare them to. All of the "large" quest mods I've tried have been absolute [censored]. Well, nevermind that. Forgot Stranded Light.

There was also some mod with a city of Undead with quests I enjoyed, and worthwhile ending. It's more of a Necromancer thing, though. I'll edit it in, if I find it.

@Phoenix: Yup, that's it, thanks. Moriarcis.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1410023-relz-integration-the-stranded-light-a-true-rpg-quest-mod-experience/ is all about helping people, changing perceptions, and improving the world. There's some boss battles and dungeon crawling, but for the most part it also avoids forcing you to slaughter through hordes of living creatures to make the world better. Lot's of dialogue, choices/consequences, multiple solutions, character building, etc. all together it's 80+ quests, 5 new joinable guilds, a very long romance, a new town, and a number of other features you gradually gain over the course of the mod

Let's see, going off of thehttp://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/User:Deaths_soul/Recommended_Oblivion_Quest_Mods_List....

Kragenier's Death Quest: Is kind of a comedy mod, with references and jokes, and pop culture references galore, so.... probably not too depressing.

Tears of the Fiend didn't seem too depressing to me... I mean everything you mentioned were past events; and I'm pretty sure there is a possible happy ending

Spoiler
Where everyone either lives or finds peace in their death

Windfall: Has a rebellion with at least one sad element, but it does have the potential for a positive ending

The Blackwood Company is a pretty evil mod with choices and consequences being a very big thing, so depending on your actions you may have to kill A LOT of people in the end.

Blood and Mud basically is meant to make Bravil more dark and gritty, so... probably don't want this one.

Daggerfall Memories: The Liberation of Cybiades is pretty straightforward: kill demonic creatures/gods to save the people.

Heart of The Dead has its fair share of twists and turns... a number of them sad and depressing, but overall it's pretty good and it's all about perspective, but yes... people that have dialogue do die.

The Lost Spires isn't too bad... There's only about one death and in the end you kill a great evil, so yeah it's a pretty standard affair

Malevolent is, pretty Malevolent... the premise of the mod is an armor forcing you to do stuff, and it does end in a cliffhanger that will likely never resolved.

Servant of the Dawn is evil, with it's share of evil things done.

The other mods I've either never played or are medium sized.

@Lobotomist: I think the mod you're thinking of is Moriarcis

Ah! That's a good one. :) Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I recall some not-so-great English, and frustrating mod requirements, though.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1469685-relz-dark-brotherhood-chronicles-awakening-2/ has two different endings, neither of which I would call pessimistic. And yeah, I'm rather biased too. :P

He did release a http://tes.multimediaxis.de/?go=dlfile&fileid=441 and without any of their gameplay changes.

The English was okay, bg did a great job given the amount writing, and him being a native german speaker. I caught most of the things where he misspelled something, or wrote something that didn't make sense, but yeah... the syntax and words used weren't always perfect english... I didn't want to bother him too much, and I kind of felt that the weird vocabulary kind of added to the foreign race/weird Daedra aspect of most of the characters.

I agree with the assessments of Phoenix and Lobo for those mods on their lists with which I am familiar. Additionally, people are so taken with Vilja as a companion that they tend to forget she has a very nice quest line. It can end sadly should the player so choose, but the choice is entirely ours. It's a quest line that is, imo, best left to progress at its own pace as you go about your normal business. Don't try to force it. Vilja herself will let you know when she's ready to continue on.

Et in Arkay Ego is sort of an odd man out, with a different feel from most quest mods. I don't recall its ending being particularly sad. But it is rather short.

Lost Sword of the Ayleids ain't bad either, but again isn't overly long. Challenging end-fight. (Not as difficult as Lost Spires.)
