Skyrim dropped the ball in quite a few areas, which one was the worst?

Civil war. I hate both sides. I detest them.

None of the above.

The worst part of Skyrim for me was the way the developers tied so many quests together. We cannot do the civil war without beginning the main quest. Some of Dragonborn is also dependent on the main quest. And although there are meta-game ways around it most first-time players are railroaded into the Mages Guild and the Thieves Guild during the main quest as well.

This is not the way an Elder Scrolls game should be designed.

It's a tie between Civil War and Companions for me.

Its a tie between the Companions and dialogue. Especially the part about the joining the Companions. "Can I join you?"

Factions were weak, at best. TES VI should have better writers IMO.

To sum up the majority of the problems with the game: Writing

Although in this list, it's close between the Companions and the Civil War. The utter inane writing and lack of pace in the Companions "Fighters" guild where the only 'warrior's' (tough to call them that) guild in the game in a WARRIOR nation requires you to become a filthy, smelly, mangy dog to advance after perhaps 30 minutes of quests vs the incredibly dull and annoying civil war faction that featured 2 sides 90% of my characters have absolutely no reason to care about featuring The Nord Arnold Schwarzenegger, Galmar-Smokes 50 packs a day, General Boring, and Legate Rikke. Unlikeable characters, annoyingly easy quests even on master. With the exception of the battle of Whiterun a frustrating storyline.

Overall, I'm going to have to give it to the Companions.

For me it was the way quests will force themselves into your journal even if you have no intention of ever doing them. The Civil War and Main Quest questlines are in your journal from the start (although I'll forgive the Main Quest - it is the Main Quest after all), the Dark Brotherhood questline appears if you accidentally overhear a conversation between guards, while the Thieves Guild quest appears if all you do is walk into Riften inn. Some people dont mind ignoring "uncompleted quests" in their journals, but I do, and dislike the journal telling me that I have left something undone. Even something as mundane as "Visit the Mages Guild" requires a Questline to start off - that's just ridiculous.

'Ere we go again, another moaner's thread........

Before anyone says anything, no, I don't think the game is perfect but, I get sick of seeing this forum full of threads moaning about the same old things, over and over again.

You'd rather have meaningless discussion of "Gee the game is so awesome in every way!"? Because criticism is dealt where criticism is due.

When you ask what the worst part is it's complicated since there are a LOT of bad parts making it hard to choose from, ranging from the bugs that have no work around to the bad and under-developed lore and the large amount of vague lore surrounding the other countries and provinces to the civil war in it's entirety.
