I want to do something very small and specific

hi everyone.

I have never touched the CK so i need help with doing something very very specific -

Borgut1337's awesome "Deadly combat" mod has a tiny feature that slows down movement sideways when the player walks sideways and swing his 1 handed weapon at the same time.

in vanilla skyrim you could jog sideways while slashing, which is completely unrealistic since melee fighting in reality requires good footing and swinging a weapon has a lot to do with your feet and torso movement.
however the speed of sideways movement in the mod isnt slow enough. the animation shown when you swing and move sideways is a walking animation but the movement is a little too fast which creates a sliding feeling of the character, and i want to fix this by editing something to slow the movement sideways more to the same speed in which you move when you are over encumbered.

borgut couldnt help me (too busy, i guess) but he hinted me this:

hey topeira. that value is not in a script file. I think you'll be looking to edit some ''Movement Type'' objects inside the Creation Kit, probably something with an editor ID starting with ''NPC_''.

So i downloaded the CK for the first time and i wish to look for that object (what's an object?) and edit it but i dont know how to do that. the CK tutorials on youtube seem to instruct on a lot of things, but nothing like this... :(

i could really use some help from you, guys.

thanks a lot!

The thing you are looking for can be found in the Object Window in the Movement Type sub-category, which can be found in the Character category. Or you can go to the category called All in Object Window and type NPC_Attacking_MT in the Filter box.

The values you will want to change are under the Run column. The default values for movement speed to the left and right are 288.0 and Deadly Combat changes these to 150.0.

thanks a lot, mate.

i found those easily!

1) now, after changing them - what do i do? how can i export a new file?
or is it that if i do "save" it overwrites the ESP and any change i made will be applied to the DEADLY COMBAT.ESP?

2) what if i want to make an ESP that is a mod into itself that does what i said? how can i do that? this will be most helpful.

Depends on where you want to save the changes.

If you only load Skyrim.esm and Update.esm, then you will create a new plugin file that only contains the edit you made to the movement type. This plugin can be loaded after Deadly Combat and it will override the change made by Deadly Combat. This method also allows you to keep your edit even if you install an updated version of Deadly Combat.

If you load Deadly Combat and all of its masters, then you will save the change to Deadly Combat.esp. This method means that you will need to modify the Deadly Combat plugin file each time an update is released.

after tweaking with this i indeed discovered that all changes were made to deadly combat, but i couldnt save my own mod, but finally

i managed to understand why i could not save my own new ESP. now i can and everything works as intended.

thanks for all the help, my friend!
