This has been driving me rather crazy lately, I've been trying to get a solid 60fps in the horribly optimized game that is skyrim.
Now first off my pc specs which sould be able to get 60 fps solid in skyrim, as it can in far more modern games.
Intel i5 2500k, OC'd to 4.4ghz
Nvidia Gtx 670 4GB FTW edition.
8GB of DDR3 ram
Running the game at 1920x1080 resolution
Windows 7 64bit
Now, I have tried every possible thing imaginable to get skyrim to play at 60 frames per second solid. Even at absolute default, no mods, no enbs, nada. Just the base game gives me drops into the 40-50 fps at the game's old trouble spots of dragonsreach, and the nightmare of programming that is markarth.
Settings make no difference, even running the game at N64 mode (Everything off or low) it still drops like rock at these locations. Now here is the weird part, with the game tweaked to insane graphics with full ENB and 4-9k texture mods, I'm seeing the exact same fps, with the fps dropping only in bizzare locations, (Like looking in a certain direction at a given time, with the planets in allignment and with a goat farting exactly 20 meters south by southwest of me.)
It's slowly driving me mad, because I've come down to the conclusion at this point that Bethesda just can't optimize and program games for crap. However others on here claim to have solid 60 fps with rigs a fair bit lower end than mine, while absolutely nothing seems to get me 60 fps everywhere no matter what. And nothing ruins the immersion worse than going from 60 fps to as low as 38 fps when you look at a random hill/wall/goat/whatever.
Some things I can add to help reduce suggestions:
1. I have the most up to date drivers for everything under the sun. Double checked and tripple checked, no beta drivers, just latest release ones.
2. Skyrim is 100% uptodate, and I have all DLC.
3. I have tried every .ini tweak on the internet, and in every combination known to man.
4. I have tried skyrim 100% mod free, and modded to hell and back with skse and enbs, neither showed any real change other than the max fps dropping. (From 146 fps to 87 fps not counting the random as hell fps drop spots.)
5. The framerate drops are NOT ONLY IN TOWNS, they are EVERYWHERE, and completely random as to what I'm looking at. I can walk for 30 minutes and have 140+ fps uncapped, then I look at a pond and BAM 45 fps, and it stays that way indefeinitely, till I look 8 degrees east or west or even up and down.
I'm open to suggestions, but honestly, since vannia skyrim is so royally screwed up by itself, I'm not sure what can be suggested. But at least some of you "claim" to not have these issues, so there must be some form of solution, unless you all sold your souls to make it work.
PS: A few additional details, I do play with vsync on, as screan tearing makes skyrim unplayable to anyone with eyes. The 140+ fps I mentioned was when I turned it off to see what max fps was, and saw just how bad the games fps drops were, thats going from 140+ fps to 38 fps (Worst I've gotten so far, and was in a specific spot in markarth-the devourer of framerates.)
