My parents have been dead for some time now. So, no.
It is the opposite case with me: I got my daughter to play. She was 12 when Morrowind came out. She used to watch me play for hours. I would offer to let her play but she did not seem interested.
That changed when she was 13. Suddenly she wanted to play. So I installed Morrowind on her computer, gave her a few beginning pointers to get her started and left the room (we raised her to be independent). She would come into my study if she had questions and I would get up and sit by her for awhile and give her whatever advice I could think of. Soon she was playing so much time that I bought her her own copy of the game.
The tables were turned now. Now it was me who was spending hours watching her play. I loved this. This was a wonderful period. We had a new topic to talk about. We'd frown slightly apart as she reached puberty. I think both of us had become embarrassed around each other. And this gave us a new way to connect.
It wasn't long before she wanted to mod. I showed her the how the Construction Set worked and let her loose to create. She soon had her a house for her character, weapons and armor, had changed the gameplay to suit her tastes and was landscaping vast tracts of Vvardenfell. It was really great. I would sit beside her and watch as she moved plants and trees around and we'd chat about school or whatever she wanted to talk about. I look back on that as a magical time in my life.
She eventually moved on to other interests. But I have always thought that playing (and modding!) Morrowind re-established our relationship. She's in her 20's now, lives on the other side of the US, but we keep in constant touch by email and instant message. I give Morrowind some credit for that.
I apologize for for my long-winded reply. This subject is very close to to me.
