Bard system lacking - lament.

Note I am new and I bet this topic has been used to death in the past but oh well I'm riding it's case now. This is an extremely well made game. Yes there are glitches but I expect that in a very complicated game and it does not appear the bugs are from lack of development but the normal stuff you get. I don't have any criticisms except this one: could bard really get any lamer? Bethesda, dudes, tell the devs to take time out to play a game called Mabinogi then go back to the drawing board on bard. I wanted to actually play an instrument.

To slam my point home this is me as bard in prev mentioned game:

You're right, it's been discussed to death. ;)

I don't even need to play an instrument, although it would be nice, I just wish members of the Bards College of all people didn't ask me to run through dungeons and fight bandits and undead in pretty much every quest (of which there are only like, four?) It's definitely the most disappointing guild in Skyrim.

But it does remind me of this lovely dialogue someone with better sense of humor than me came up with:

Viarmo: "Hey guys, the guy in heavy armour and glowing sword wants to be a bard."
Pantea: "What the hell.. can he play an instrument? Write poetry, does he know any songs?"
Viarmo: "Nope, from what I can tell.. he pretty much just stabs and burns things"
Pantea: "Riiight.. what do you think guys?"
Viarmo: "Would it be fair to abuse him?"
Pantea: "Whaddya mean?"
Viarmo: "Well, clap him on the back, tell him, well done, you're a bard! Then tell him that he looks awfully adventurous and his role is to wander the world and bring us treasure."
Pantea: "Come on.. who's gonna fall for that..."
Viarmo: "You wanna bet?! 100 septims says I can make him fight through an undead army just to get a book I was planning to forge anyway."
Pantea: "You're on!"
It's sad because it's true.

I wouldn't mind the fact that the Bard's College only is a dealer of dungeon missions so much, if they didn't claim that "you're a bard now". (Which is even stupier since you might very well have stumbled on that first quest by mistake and just want to get it out of your journal and have no wish to become a bard - I did this with my first character.)

Either, the option to join the Bard's College could be there, but you should have been able to actually perform and play instruments.

Or, the Bard's College should just have been another questgiver, with no option for the player to join (which would infuriate people as well, but it would at least have been consistent).

(And yes, I know there are mods that allow you to play instruments and be a bard, I'm using one of them right now.)

Or it would've been nice if they gave you the option to hire your own bard that you can pick yourself if you have the hearthfire dlc instead of one being appointed to you.
