Why do the Brotherhood of Steel like Pre-War tech so friggin much? I mean they'll literally go at war with a nation just for a first generation Ipod!

But my question is Why? How does having old tech benefit them? To preserve it? No its gotta be something bigger than that right?

They are pretty much interested in pre-war military tech, not all pre-war tech. The orginal thinking was to keep the good pre-war military tech out of the hands of anyone who would misuse it, which turns out to be anyone not them. The hope would be that without the good pre-war military tech history would not repeat itself as in humanity annihilating itself with that tech.

But by the time of New Vegas they have become nothing but http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Hoarder and have developed what would amount to a religion around military tech. Unable to exept that alot of factions are doing very well and have got their hands on all kinds of advanced pre-war tech.
