New Vegas 2 and the Courier's fate

Recently Obsidian has expressed interest in making a New Vegas 2. Whether or not that will actually happen, do you think the courier's fate will play a large role in it? By the end of Fallout: New Vegas the courier is, indisputably, the most powerful person in the whole area. Whoever the courier sides with will ultimately be the victor, but what long term consequences could this have?

If the courier sides with Legion could he lead them to victory all across the United States? Could he help the NCR control even more territory, maybe even wiping the Legion out completely? What about an independant courier? Having all of House's tech and power could go to someone's head.

I can totally see the Courier being a force to be reckoned with in New Vegas 2.

The Fallout Series is not one to carry characters over from one game to the next. Besides, it's not an RPG if you don't have any character development, as you would if you got to use the Courier from the end game of New Vegas.

Also, there are 4 major story finishes to the game they would have to throw that all out if they do a continuation story of New Vegas. Sorry, but the New Vegas game painted the developers into a "can't sequel this game" corner if they want to continue the story.

A prequel however, would be awesome for New Vegas 2

True, but we already know who won that round, Mr. House. Unless we want to play a game that creates a world where New Vegas could never happen. I am all for Obsidian making another Fallout Game, but tying a new game to an older one just creates too many compromises in the story arc.

The only way i could see a new vegas 2 happening is if it is set like 100 years after the 2nd battle of hoover dam so doesn't matter who won because at this rate new vegas has changed so much. they could expand new vegas so you aren't going to the same place and obviously after that much time the landscape and places would have changed. obviously they would have to do away with the families and "new" new vegas would be independent or something. i think they could drop the NCR and Legion by saying the hoover dam ceased working and so the NCR and legion moved out of the mojave and introduce new factions(except keep the brotherhood of steel.) they could even say these new factions pushed the legion and NCR out of the mojave. i could see the fiends surviving and thriving as they are just like cockroaches. I think they could make a new vegas 2 they just have to get creative with it.

i would go with a prequel, say five or ten years before the first battle at hover dam. could involve the raise of the legion. more of the background that led to the divide getting nuked.

It can have a sequel, all they need to do is decided on which ending should be the official ending and then continue off from there.

Fallout to Fallout 2 did it with some things, most notably Tandi, she could die or stay captured by the Khans but regardless of what choices you as a player made in the first game the official storyline is that Tandi survived and became the president of NCR. I realize that there are more choices to be made here, more choices to canonize if a sequel is placed in the same area as the current FNV is, but a sequel is very much possible as all it requires is an official ending. Someone have to decide what ending is canon at some point anyway, the outcome of the 2nd battle at Hoover Dam can't stay ambiguous forever.
