So everyone knows of the bow/arrow glitch with followers where they will not use their bow and/or arrow. However, if their combined bow/arrow is within certain parameters, they will use both their bow and arrow.

So my question is, what is the best combo you have been able to get your follower to use?

For me, it is Supple Ancient Nord Bow with Orcist Arrows. If you use a bow with equal damage to the Supple Ancient, your follower won't use it. However, Faendal uses this combo for me and upgrading either item makes him stop using one or the other. Also, I believe this combo is stronger than what sites report the acceptable range as. I think the game may take firing rate into question to, as the supple ancient nord bow is heavy and thus fires slower (but better velocity and range).

Anyone know of a stronger combo?

I thought that was fixed in the 1.9 patch.

It waa supposed to be fixed in 1.9. I never had the bug happen to me until I installed 1.9.

This is variable on PC Sir. And it depends what mods you have installed. And if you are on PC at all.

So if you're not, then here's a PC perspective. From someone who has spent long non-game hours of flipping troubleshooting fun. With the 1.9 'patch'.

At one time, my follower Mjoll used the Enchanted Ebony bow with Shock Damage and I actually saw contact on one occasion when the arrow struck. Schweet.

So schweet in fact that I head-canoned an enormous snogging session followed by a quick roll on a pile of dead bandits.

Then we went here and there. And we were suddenly back to her using a standard hunting bow with steel arrows.

About 3 months ago, I started using Amazing Follower Tweaks (AFT) which I would categorise as a stable mod that allows for relatively easy equipment exchanges.

So when I see her pull out that Hunting Bow I swap it out for an Elven Bow with an Elven Arrow payload, then this seems to work. She has Glass and Ebony Arrows in her arsenal but won't nock them up.

However, I cannot get her to use that Enchanted Ebony Bow.

Shame. She looks so sweet when administering the 'wounds of love' to assorted goolies and the nasties they belong to.

And I'm still chasing that snogging session followed by a quick roll on a pile of dead bandits.

I tend to get around this by never bothering to give any arrows but Ancient Nord arrows to my follower. Then they'll use pretty much any bow I give them, especially if it's enchanted (which I usually do). I've never tested this with Daedric bows, but I've had followers using Ebony bows with no problem. Another advantage to using Ancient Nord arrows is that they're readily available in any draugr-infested dungeon I creep through, so I don't have to worry about my follower running out, nor do I have to spend cartloads of money buying arrows for my follower, or competing with them for the best arrows if I'm also an archer. (I don't have DG, so I can't craft arrows.)

I also use the Unofficial Patch, which probably fixed things once and for all, but my procedure above predates my use of the patch and has become habit, so I still do it.

Didn't fix it for me. And I'm a 360 player
