How I made skyrim more fun

Post » Mon Oct 14, 2013 8:58 pm

My problem previously in skyrim, was that I was getting bored. The reason I got bored was because I felt skyrim was a little bit like a first person shooter, except it was with swords. You go to different dungenous, fight monsters to pick up better items and you will go to the next dungeon and do the same. By level 5 you will rarely need the merchant again and you will have way too much money.

That playstyle can get repetitive and boring, especially if the storyline is not too amazing. Why doing a hard dungeon, when the rewards doesn't matter.

So being aware of this problem I tried to play skyrim again, but I added a couple more mods. One mod removes level scaling and item scaling. The other is called expensive skyrim, which reduces sale prices and increases buy prices. I also manually modified the level scaling mod and added some new items for the blacksmith so he got some interesting items I can save up for.

And what a difference! Due to this skyrim become so much fun. Instead of having 10000s that I don't know what to do with, I have now 100 and there are so much I need to save up for. I need a better weapon, better armor, better blacksmithing, but I can't afford it. I have to be really careful in the wilderness and dungouns, cause some of the monsters and people are really strong. The good thing is that I can improve my level, and then be able to beat the monsters. Currently I am kind of stuck in the main mission, because the bandits around The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller are too hard. I will come back when I have improved my skills.

I also have a mod removing the compass, I don't use fast travel but I have upgraded the speed of the horse, I don't wait but sleep at inns and I have a mod making it really dark at night. Pluss I have plenty of graphical mods.

For anyone here who think the game is somewhat boring I really reccomend getting level scaling stopper and expensive skyrim and then start a new character. This is not an advertisment or something, just my personal opinion.

+1

I did this many months back, it was great. Got me my last 100 hours in Skyrim before I got too bored and stopped.

You can try "http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19281" for a totally different, but really intense experience.

But be warned, you need to start a new character, and you might require to rethink your strategies when confronting problems, and get used to be owned before you can adjust to the new difficulty level.

I find this quite interesting as I am on my first play through (level 61) and am bored. What kinds of things did you add to the blacksmiths in the no level scaling mod? One problem I found was that I was able to easily buy gear to smith, raising my smithing rather quickly and thus being able to wear the best armor and have the best weapons far too early in the game. Leveling that up was fun, but once I could no longer get better equipment, the luster came off the game. I can kill almost everything with a single blow, Dragon's with two-three arrows. And I never take any significant damage, so potions and alchemy are useless to me. Loot has no meaning, killing is automatic, I wonder if this is what it's like to be rich?

Is there also a mod that makes you level up slower, or will these two mods you've recommended basically do that by virtue of what they change?

Those mods I have mentioned do not make you level up slower, but it certainly will affect your blacksmiths. Since you are unable to buy a lot because everything is very expensive, then you won't be able to increase your blacksmithing skill by much.

In terms of difficulty it should make it much harder. Of course when you turn level 61 then it won't be hard anymore. I am level 13 right now, and I am getting crushed by a lot of enemies. But I am playing on expert, not adept. Install http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9857/? and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13374/? and start a new character. The items I added to the blacksmith was just some orc/ebony weapons and armor, because else he will just sell steel. I haven't been able to afford it yet tough.

If you want slower skill gains, then maybe get this mod. I don't use it, because I don't have time to put in that many hours.

I like it, but do I have to start a new character?
