Help me justify an Orc Dragonborn.

Post » Mon Oct 14, 2013 4:09 pm

I love Orcs. I want to play as an Orc Dragonborn warrior-sorceror, but I have a hard time RPing anything but a Nord or Imperial int he role of Dragonborn.

Can any of you lore masters help me out here? Is there any justification for an Orc to be able to be a Dargonborn in TES lore?

If you can't get into it with what you've been given, then you won't be able to justify an Orc Dragonborn.

Nothing says they can't be, a Nord Dragonborn in lore even said she could find no reason as to why any race would be left out, but so far we've only had non Redguard humans and a Dunmer as Dragonborn (and some of those are disputed).

What is stopping an orc from seeking out a great battle with a dragon only to find out he(or she) is dragonborn after killing the dragon?

Well, there isn't anything that suggests an Orc can't become Dragonborn.

Though like I said, it still isn't clear if there's a difference between the Emperor Dragonborn and the Shouting kind.

from a Lore stand-point there is nothing I am aware of saying only humans can be Dragonborn.. as such, mer (including the Orsimer(Orcs)) could be a Dragonborn..

other then the prophecy of Alduin clearly saying "He who was both kin to both Wyrm, and the Races of Man" or a few lines in Sovngarde, there is nothing that should make it feel overly Out of place..

remember, a Dragonborn is a Mortal who has "The Soul of a Dragon" (this is why they can absorb the souls of Dragons), and a soul is not bound to a particular Physical race, this is why incarnations on occasion are a different race then who they are reincarnated from.. It all gets washed away in the Dreamsleeve..

Nothing. However, finishing the MQ would be a different story. Most of my Dragonborn characters are beast races who either tell Delphine to take a hike, or simply don't buy into that needing to stop Alduin crap.

I don't think he's asking for if a Orc CAN be a dragonborn, more why would an Orc be dragonborn.

Because Orcs have been down-trodden by almost everyone else constantly, they may have no need to be a dragonborn and save the Empire/Stormcloaks. They don't care about the people in Skyrim.

But when Alduin ends the Kalpa, that is for the whole world. It'll end the Kalpa for the Orismer too, so logically an Orc would want to stop Alduin. The question may be why does he want to fight Dragons BEFORE he knows he is saving the world. It could just be for the challenge - he arrived in Skyrim as an 'experienced' warrior, and when he learns he can fight dragons he does it for the new experiences, then realises he must save the world?

Or he could be an Orc raised in the Imperial City, fleeing the damaged province of Cyrodiil and looking for a new home. If he was treated well in the Impreial City he wouldn't care (as much at least) that the Orismer are badly treated else where.

I see the Dragonborn emperors being the same type of Dragonborn as the LDB is..
The Dragonfires could only be lit by a "Dragonborn Emperor".. Martins Last Words being "With the Dragons blood, and the Amulet of Kings...", then look at the way the LDB opens the path to Sky Haven Temple, using his or her blood.. and Sky Haven was the base from the Akaviri Dragonguard, who were the Blades of the Second Empire, and who did they serve? a Dragonborn Emperor...
Interesting you brought up Empress Katariah though.. She was a Septim my Marriage, not Birth.. this adds to the Theory that one does not need to be "born" a Dragonborn, but can become one by "gift of the gods"..

LDB takes on the role of Trinnimac in 95% of all the Enantiomorphic events[his/her role in LDB/Miraak/Hermaues Mora is interchangeable and debatable... Same exact God-Hood outcome though]

Trinnimac is Malacath is Arkay is the Ashen Knight. Malacath and Shor have violent yet respected history. They are intertwined to an extent.

Hearken to the call of Vengeance, child of Malacath, keeper of the Sworn Oath. As Dovah-soul, you are the head authority. The Supreme Law. Punishment and Retribution. Follow the code of Malacath.

Alduin, astray from the commands of Bormahu. Champion of Akatosh. Dragonborn is a gift from Akatosh. Trinnimac is the Champion of Auri-El. Are you the Ashen Knight reborn? Mercy on the treacherous, retribution is at hand.

Go. Wild.

but, being a Dragonborn is not a choice.. its a fact...

you have the Soul of a Dragon because Akatosh or Shor or whoever blessed you with it, so your Dragonborn..

In lore terms. In gameplay terms, not really. You can just ignore the main quest and then you are 'theoretically' a dragonborn, but you're not. I'm fine to make an Orc character in Skyrim, but to justify him doing the main quest and finding out he's a dragonborn and wanting to help Skyrim by killing dragons is a bit hard.

I find that makes it much more confusing, especially with Katariah.
Personally, I believe Akatosh "knows" who will step up and become Emperor/Empress and blesses them at birth, what with being a Time God and all. But for now that's just my head canon.

an orc looks for a challenge. So what if that means deciding to "help" Skyrim deal with them?

Lets say your Orc hears about the return of dragons and decides that facing a dragon would make a fine challenge. But getting the challenge means helping those poor walled defenseless people of Whiterun. Your orc cares not for the people of Skyrim but its hard to say no to the challenge of fighting a dragon. Its no different then helping a village by killing a nearby bandit camp? You did it for the challenge of taking on bandits by yourself. But the results of your actions are positive even if unplanned. Same goes for being dragonborn.

You can always pick certain shouts to use. I think charging into battle and shouting so loudly (disarm) that your enemy drops their weapons in terror... would be an awesome sight to see.

Glad I could help. :D

I tend to think of some crazy off-the-wall Role-plays... With such a crazy, all-over-the-place mythos that is TES lore. A lot of things can be justified.

That isn't true. A Nord Tongue said she didn't know if another race could learn the Thu'um.

OP do what you want.

I never play Nords , especially with Skyrim. I find a more compelling story when the main hero is anything but the expected norm. Beast races and Orcs make great Dragonborn heroes.

Orcs are basically green Elven Nords. It could be a Orc warrior who left a stronghold after hearing about dragons returning. He/she want to be the first Orc in his/her stronghold to kill a dragon. He/she finds out that he/she is Dragonborn and then.....
