AMD FX CPU causing stuttering problems?

Post » Sun Oct 20, 2013 12:28 am

I have quite a lot of stuttering in Skyrim, especially when I am riding along on my horse which is very annoying. Every few seconds it will stutter, and when I autosave there is a stutter that lasts over a second. I also get considerable micro stuttering. Could this be because of the FX processor? I have a FX 8350 and a GTX 770.

I have tried:

- Inserting a line in the 'ini' file to limit the cores, like the fix in Fallout 3.

- Enabling VSync, and limiting pre-rendered frames.

- Dramatically increasing grass render distance.

- Windowed mode.

Another point to add is that I get a constant 60fps at ultra settings and I am running ENB with climates of tamriel, among other graphical mods.

Thanks in advance.

I use to have the same thing. This is what I found, for me at least, works.

Go in to your Skyrim Launcher options. Click on, Advanced then the View Distance Tab.

Under the, Distant Object Detail, change it to High instead of ultra. You won't really see much difference in game.

It stopped the stuttering for me.

I have a FX- 8150 and a GTX 780 SC.

There are a few other tweaks I did too but try that to see if it gets rid of it.

Do you play with AA ??? and in which resolution do you play ???

-------------------------------------

Revert your previous changes (all 4 of them)

Delete the line in the ini to limit the cores.

Enable Vsync=adaptive mode, pre-rendered frames:default

Grass render distance: default (should be a problem with that Graphic card)

switch to Full screen.

PLUS: Disable your climates of tamriel ENB. (for now !!!)

-----------------------------------------

try those out: http://imageshack.us/f/18/7ol9.jpg/

That's my specs, but lowering the Object Distance Detail to Medium and adding Object Detail Fade, plus i disabled AF.

Should see how your Amd performs on default settings.

Thanks your changes have made a large difference. Without ENB the was very little stuttering; with it on there is a bit more but it is a lot more bearable. Nevertheless, is there anything else you can think of that might reduce it? The Autosaving stutter is still large, as it always has been.

Oh if your change the uGridstoload value in the ini, you have hosed your saves, so use a save from before you changed that value the first time. Turn off the Autosave features. They just corrupt saves eventually. Use manual slots instead.

Also, running the game at 60FPS also has it's problems. The game is happier when the max FPS is 54 or less. I clamp mine to 40 and the game is as smooth as buttah with tons of eye candy mods. I use the Antilag for this, but there are some tools that are more fashionable that some use for a FPS clamp. Besides, if your upper limit is clamped, you don't notice it when the FPS drops to 30 or so.

Also, make sure your Gamepad and Rumble is disabled in the Prefs files. You can do this in game, but it's better in the Prefs. Just search for pad and rumble and set those lines to disabled.

Thanks to CCNA too! I disabled the Gamepad and Rumble and that seems to have reduced stuttering even further. I think the FPS limit is sorted out by setting Vsync to adaptive in the control panel, but I'm not sure.

Someone should make a post listing everything you can do to reduce stuttering other than simply reducing settings. I was surprised to find how many forums there were that didn't have many solutions, which was why I created my own.

Is it true that Intel i7s basically don't have this problem at all, except in uncommon cases?
