Is there an actual fix for the RTSMMM brahmin issue?

In a previous game, I didn't install MMM until I gathered up some brahmin. This time, I forgot to do that, but noticed there was a patch that claimed to fix the issue, and was easier and less invasive to disable then MMM, so I tried it. Well, I equipped the whip and struck the brahmin. I didn't get the bell-like noise I got in the previous game when it worked, and they still followed me everywhere. From what I remember, I thought striking them a second time would keep them in place. Is there a fix or a way around this that actually works? I summoned them using the console, but yeah. Still having a problem.

Edit: Another issue I'm having concerning RTS is packing up the camp to assign a lumberjack. I've built a few guard towers, a mine, a market, and an academy. I've also placed the camp tent, bench, anvil and mattress. I read that to assign a lumberjack, I need to pack up the camp first. Well, I tried packing up the camp, but when I do, Bess goes invisible. I still see her light reflecting on the ground where she should be. If I try using the player.additem code, it moves the light closer to where I am, but she is still invisible. I've also tried fast traveling several times as suggested but this didn't fix the problem either. Has this been fixed? Does anyone know of a solution that works?
