Handling Benny from a roleplay perspective

Post » Wed Oct 30, 2013 1:09 pm

I love killing this guy. Doesn't matter how I do it, I just love doing it. Not because he domed me or because he's a [censored]. I actually like him. I just like doing it because there's so many fun ways to do it. But....

My favorite way of doing it makes me feel somewhat stupid from a roleplay perspective, which is to have him escape, kill the goons he sends to finish you off, then chase him down and sniping through Caesar's boys. I kill the new guy Caesar sends after killing the guys at Nipton, so I don't just walk in to speak to Caesar usually. A shame since he's so fun to listen to.

Anyway, its been a while since I've played and I just started up again, so is there a way that I'm missing that could justify an intelligent person letting Benny trick them? It seems too obvious that he wouldn't go up after you confront him, and if you catch him in his room, an let him walk, it makes me feel even more stupid...Just the price you have to pay for a fun chase?

The only way I could spin it is my character is what you'd call an evil man

Spoiler

If you have to look along the shaft of an arrow from the wrong end, if a man has you entirely at his mercy, then hope like hell that man is an evil man. Because the evil like power, power over people, and they want to see you in fear. They want you to know you're going to die. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JustBetweenYouAndMe http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EvilGloating They'll watch you squirm. They'll put off the moment of murder like another man will put off a good cigar. So hope like hell your captor is an evil man. A good man will kill you with hardly a word.

and let him go on purpose so he knows I'm coming. Which honestly I think I can live with.

Sorry, can't help you. I play as a female character, and well, let's just say my way of taking him out is good old fashioned six appeal.

Bazinga, baby!

Oh, wait. Perhaps look at this from a different perspective. After getting shot in the head, you realize how valuable the chip really is, and you "work" with Benny, who runs off to set things up, and you discover he double-crossed you, selling you out to the Legion.

He is, after all, a dirtbag.

I wish Benny had more to do with this game as a character. He is in the opening movie credits after all, and when you finally catch up with him, your encounter will last no more then 5 minutes of face to face time. I was 'stupid' on my first playthrough where he tricked me into working with him, and ran away. I liked the idea of trying to take over Vegas with him. You know, assuming you can put the giant scar on your head, behind you.

Benny actually shooting you wasn't personal, you were just at the wrong place at the wrong time basically.

You know, I can't possibly wrap my head around any woman sleeping with a man who shot them in the head even though you lived and his reasoning wasn't malicious...from a roleplay point and not just because. I know women like scumbags, lol, but yowza.

Then again, I can't say I wouldn't bed a charming woman who did the same....Damn hormones.

Maybe you could let him go because of the superior firepower? Benny mentions that if you draw on him on the casino floor, every Chairman in the joint would ventilate you. As I only had a silenced .22 and a Razor on my first playthrough, I realized he was going to vamoose as soon as I reached the suite, but I went anyway because I didn't think I could take on the entire casino. You could just RP that your Courier hadn't really thought of what was going to happen beyond "Find Benny and kill him dead", and you let Benny get away because your Courier realizes that s/he overplayed his/her hand upon confronting Benny at The Tops. That makes sense, right? That's the way it usually goes for me. Plus, I just can't resist the irony of shooting Benny in the head after Caesar ties him up.

At the last sentence I agree, haha :D

It does and I do this as well. I just wish I didn't have to give myself the idiot card since his intelligence is usually pretty high. But its not so bad and not that far fetched to think he's just blinded by revenge. Besides speech checks, shoot 'em up tends to be how we solve most things without a terminal nearby, lol. So again yea it makes sense. Most people probably couldn't resist to approach the bastard when they see him and not smooth talk the guy up front.
